Sections like the brief paragraphs on aftercare are just really thoughtful: 'aftercare isn't over 30 minutes after the session, a simple text can make a sub feel better' is amazing advice.
A bigger issue though is how the book welcomes EVERYONE to experience ropes bondage
Texts that have good technical details like Shibari and Two Knotty Boys picture *just* women being bound, explicitly or implicitly by men. Two Knotty Boys also has a sort of chuckling tone of leering at a female submissive. Of course this stuff is sexual, but it feels like it breaks the boundaries of trust and respect right within the text.
Lee's book portrays people of multiple genders and body types both binding and being bound. It also offers advice for bodies of different sizes.
All this means I'm not ashamed to have it sitting open so that the sub can see it while I'm tying them.
The detail views of knots are good, though like all extant shibari books you may wish for more detailed step-by-steps on some knots. Knots by Grog is a great resource for this.
I have both the paper and kindle versions. Both are formatted well with a clear flow that's easy to flip back and forth in.
The format of 'base harness and then variations' is nice, and there's good recommendations for how to practice certain ties.
I cant really FAULT the book. Honestly, the guides are relatively easy to follow and well put together. The photography itself is detailed and useful. I've tied a lot of knots in my life as a medic and climbing mountains, though never for sexy reasons (I wonder if there's a kinky overlap in technic riggers with this stuff) and I found all the guides quite easy to follow.
And i understand why it uses such spectacularly average and unattractive models - it's trying to be inclusive and show the reader that anyone can do it. Which is commendable
But honestly, when my wife is just miles and light years beyond the models in attractiveness and I'm pretty "meh" about this stuff to begin with (I am open to trying, but I had no real burning interest to begin with) as I read and look through the pictures as a guide, I am just kinda... distracted about how unbelievably unsexy the end result looks on all of the models. Like there isn't a single truly "hot" model in the book. Anywhere.
"Okay honey, I'm done tying you up! Let's compare how it looks to the woman with the unibrow!"
Also, I just about died laughing when I saw a line in a guide that was "STEP ONE, LOCATE GENITALS". I mean... come on. If we're this far along and someone DOESN'T do that without being told.... Just let the Darwin award happen.
My only other criticism is that this book does a lot of things that use a lot more than the 5M rope she was suggested. So I would recommend a 10 or 20m rope.
I would genuinely like to buy this book if it was printed again with real, good looking men and women as models. I hate to sound shallow, but I like looking at other attractive people. Personal taste, sue me. But if you're self conscious and want a more "relatable, real world" selection of people to compare how your results look against without feeling inferior, i would say it gets five stars.

The information outside of just tying is astounding. Very well presented, beautiful photos and a lot of fun.
