****Spoiler Alert this is book #2 in the series if you haven't read Book #1 you will be confused*****
Just as gripping in this one as the last!! It felt like you could see it in your mind's eye. As we learned from book#1 the circle of agents working undercover together at Classic Rides didn't come from clean cut American back grounds. The twins are Russians and it appears their pasts have caught up with them. Can the team stay safe while protecting the twins? Do we even really know who the twins are? Do they?
So basically, the Hot RIdes folks are various different FBI agents/contractees who work in a car shop as a deep cover front. They also race cars illegally, apparently. There are lots of them, and I kind of lost track of the individual agents and their roles. More on this in the "What didn't work for me" section.
To continue, mechanic Tori has been crushing on Emery for quite some time. Unbeknownst to her, he returns her attraction. When trouble comes calling, Emery throws off his nerdy guy persona and becomes Super Agent, breaking rules and going off the reservation without a care. Emery is determined to do whatever it takes to keep Tori safe. Once these two realized they were on the same page, they ignited. Really a delightful couple, very balanced. Love how Tori brought Emery out of his shell.
What worked for me - The MC's worked for me in a major way. I loved Tori and Emery from the beginning of the book. I was invested in their well-being, their romance, the risks they took to keep one another safe freaked me out (several times). Loved Emery's geekiness, plus muscles...yes, all the way yes. Smart, sexy and he can kick bad guy behind? Oh, yeah. Tori was no pushover, either. An ace shot and a scrapper. The sexy times were very sexy, but also had a lot of feelings going on. Very nice.
What else worked for me - I liked the premise of the story. Russian mob and various assorted Miami bad guys after these quasi-agents, and the motives were interesting. The writing style was engaging enough that I overlooked a few things that made me go Hmmmm...
What didn't work so well - A few things. As mentioned, there were a lot of players, not very well defined, and largely interchangeable. The action scenes were...hmmm, how to explain...not well thought out? Not believable? Had me saying, "What???" - Yes, to all of the above. For example, if a bad guy is in front of you, holding a gun, chances are good they are just gonna shoot you, not suddenly decide to bring you along for the ride. And even if you are an FBI agent, and it was mostly self-defense, if dead bodies start piling up around you, there are going to be questions, inquiries, investigations...It's not just another day at the office. I found that completely unbelievable, to the point where it pulled me completely out of the story.
Bottom line - 3.5 stars, rounded up. I did like the book, but there were some gigantic plot holes. The characters, which are always my focal point, were well-developed, charmingly awkward, and fun to read. The writing style was engaging and very readable. Though this is the 2nd book in the series, I didn't feel like I was missing pieces of the story due to the fact that I had not read the first book. I will continue to read the series. I noticed Ms. Bristol has several titles available as part of the Kindle Unlimited program, and I plan to check those out, as well.

I loved the excitement and the danger. And the sex! There is a lot of sex in this story. And it's pretty explicit, everything is spelled out.Read more
