But to do this review justice I have to say that I think there will be quite a few readers out there who like shifter books but would find the smex scenes in this book a little too tame and not discriptive enough. I also think these same readers would also want the hero to be a bit more alpha. And I have to admit that although it was lovely to read about nice shifters that were not over the top, at times I was looking for a little more 'oomph' from the characters.
The story was nice and it kept me engaged, I wanted to know what would happen and wanted to see were everything was all leading, but at the same time I was waiting for something to grab me and make me go "wow". There were also a few editing issues, nothing that made you re read sentences, but ones that were obvious. I do find this a little distracting.
However, I enjoyed this book enough that I wanted to know what happened next, and I brought the next one. And if you are wondering what I thought of that, I liked it alot. More than this one, it had the oomph that was missing from this one, but was still sweet.
Will I read this again? Not sure
Would I recommend it? Sure
Maverick is future alpha of his pack and meets his true mate by chance after a bird bath (that we never really discover how it came to be crushing Rory only that it was crooked. I'm guessing she was trying to move it but was she lying under it? Because she couldn't move it according to it's massively over stated weight.) pins a dying Rory to the ground. He removes the heavy birdbath and scoops her up to carry her to his clinic..
Only it's a big no, no to take her there and he gets into trouble with his alpha... ex-girlfriend drama ensues and Rory gets left for a month with a stalker (Maverick) hovering out her window watching her every move...
He gets balls and comes for her mating her against his fathers approval. A feral wolf attacks her before he can turn her almost killing Rory but Willow (her sister) manages to save her and she ends up being a rare white wolf. Meaning that what they thought was going to be a hard sell ( a turned human as the alpha's mate) becomes easy... leaving them happily mated and in love...
Aww so for me this was a SEPE or 4-star read... with more body langue and separation between head jumps this could have been a five star read.
Rory's sister Willow a psychic witch, predicts that Rory's life will be changed. Rory and Maverick meet when he saves her from being crushed by a garden planter that weighs several hundred pounds. Maverick knows that he has to mate with a shifter in accord with the rules of his pack but he cannot seem to let Rory go to a human hospital, so he takes her to his clinic to treat her injuries. While there she encounters assistants who are either leery of her or downright hostile.
Rory knows that Maverick is not human he emits a power that she can't explain. Her sister tells her he is a shifter which is a surprise to Rory. Nothing comes easy and since Maverick can't have her he decides to watch over her but Willow's predictions are always right and she is confident that she knows what will happen.
I'll definitely be reading the other books in this series. This was an enjoyable short read.
