Oh yea, I hooked onto a big Cownose ray and it was a good drag test. One of my buddies also hooked a Cownose ray next day and broke his reel (another brand), where the the main shaft bent.
Cons: aluminum look and finish has that boring and cheap look and feel, torque is very week can't handle a 2 oz bucktail lure in current.
90% of my reels are shimano reels, starting 15 years ago I owned about half a dozen of the Sorroco reels banking for blue catfish or hybrids. Neither the 50lb blue catfish nor 12lb hybrids those Shimano reels never disappointed me. For stripers I used Shimano Sustain reels for years (and still do), excellent reel plenty of power to reel 15lb striper against the current with ease! Can't say the same about the stradic fk 4000 that I got, it has all the excellent features of a shimano reel except when you try to fish with a 2 oz bucktail lure in current the crank became extremely tight. I don't think this reel can handle a 5 lb fish in the current. Maybe the reel is a defective reel, but I don't even like it's look and feel thus I returned it for refund.
Bottom line is if you have the money to spend I highly recommend move up and get the Sustain reel. If not, there are better reels on the market that cost a fraction of the price of this reel.
As for the reel it is the highest quality I've ever owned. I had an Okuma Inspira 30 that was actually smoother in rotation, but that was probably due to having so many ball bearings. This stradic is so ideal for fishing for bass, trout, and other reds. The drag is super strong and smooth and I feel the weight of the reel is perfect on my 7' Star Rods Stellar lite.
This is a guaranteed winner of a reel.
