If an author can put his/her fantasies, which many contain great exaggerations, down with words to paper and make it palpable, I consider that a great feat and I do believe this was accomplished. Now, I had trouble comprehending the realistic geography setup between stairways and such (and this could very well have been my own drawback), however there was one great gap in the rudimentary writing; what happened to the other 95 or so men. They were mentioned once as 100 hundred and “pooft”. They’re gone! Every character, if they are mentioned as part of the cast must have a role to play no matter how small. Apparently, they just hung on the sides of the ship for the duration. For me that was non-believable hence it subtracted something from the story.
