I had read and loved the full-length suspense In Deep Shitake, so I was eager to check out this short story prequel and I was not disappointed. Mo (Imogene) is a sassy female PI who keeps getting herself into deep doo-doo. I love the way she shouts out different foods to substitute for the profanities she is trying not to use anymore. Clarence is the epitome of `duh' and makes a great sidekick for Mo. The result is totally LOL. Mason kept me guessing, turning pages and laughing throughout. Highly recommended!

I haven't read "In Deep Shitake" but since this is a prequel I figured that would be ok and it was. It actually was a pretty good introduction and now I cannot wait to read more. The book was two short and funny tales of PI work gone wrong vaguely reminiscent of Stephanie Plum but Mo seems slightly less inept, but able to land herself in crazy situations nonetheless.

I have seen a few people complain about the length but after being surprised a few times myself I have started paying much more attention to the "Print Length" under the product details. This one is listed as 40 pages which was exactly why I choose to read it this morning. I was looking for a quick gym read and this fit the bill perfectly. It was short enough to finish during my workout and interesting enough to distract me from my hatred of ellipticals.

I really enjoyed getting to know a little bit about Mo, and Clarence. The characters were discussed enough so you could get a feel for them and what makes them tick. For example little notes are thrown in about Mo's background (family, pets, dreams) but its definitely not a complete picture just enough to wet your appetite.

A funny novella full of suspense and humor. Mo is an eccentric and sassy private eye who's using her own string of curses, all appropriated from her culinary vocabulary. While trying to solve difficult cases, she ends up in more shitake, I mean unexpected situations than she bargains for. This is the first book I read by P. Mason, but I already bought her next one. I want to read more of Mo's funny cases.

What a lot of fun this short read was! Mo, a private investigator is at it again, but this time she has to drag their office secretary Clarence with her on a job. Once she suspects there's been a murder committed, things get dicey and...even funnier. Not only does the dude drive her crazy with his complaints about not liking surveillance jobs after all, he pushes her buttons to where she's thinking to commit her own murder. I liked the other stories in this book also...with characters such as Mo, Harry and Clarence, it's hard not to enjoy their shenanigans. There was an added bonus - a Shakespearean love story about Joe and Florence. Considering one is a Flamingo and the other a seagull, Ms. Mason's writing talent was very evident.

I read this book before I read In Deep Shitake. I wasn't too sure I would like the books so I started off with this one since it is much shorter. I enjoyed the stories of Mo and her food cussing so much that I had to read In Deep Shitake right away. I like the character Patricia Mason has developed in Mo. I look forward to reading more in the future from this author.

I loved Mo from In Deep Shitake and being able to read about her in these two short stories made my day! Mo is smart, talented and creative in her word usage! :) I wish I could come up with such creative swear words! Each story was fun, fast paced and just plain fun! The bonus short story at the end left me laughing! Enjoy a quick read with a wonderful character, Mo! And check out Patricia Mason's other book in this series In Deep Shitake.. both are so worth it and here is hoping a new one will be out soon!
