I can relate to the turmoil that the main character has which is probably why I'm so drawn to her. She isn't flawless and perfect but she still does what needs to be done.
This is a fantastic book. I recommend it to everyone I know. The author is so talented. The shiv crew world flew off the pages and surrounded me. I love these books so much that I have trouble getting into other books.
Definitely read this book!!!!!!
This crew is responsible for protecting humans from the Others. Others meaning Werewolves, Vampires - Monsters as they call them. But things are not all so straight forward...
I highly recommend this series starting with this book to those who love paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I LOVED IT.
Yes there may be a lot of them out there, but honestly people, how many are well written? Lol. This one is. I loved the depth of the details on everything from the characters to the background. This book visually came to life for me with vivid clarity and I felt as if I were there among them all as they battle against all manners of creatures.
I cannot say too much without ruining the pleasure of reading this for other adventurers along the way. But I will read this author again and I can't wait to see what else is in store for the Shiv Crew but here's a brief synopsis.
The Shiv crew is a group that has been put together to protect the humans against the Others. Which consists of all sorts of supernatural creatures. Confronted and forced to face her past, Rune Alexander discovers that her own monster needs to come out, that she needs to face the truth and stop hiding for fear of what society might think.
Brilliant story and character that linger living within your mind I would reread this book and I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
It would be untrue to say that this is a well-written book in the paranormal genre with a kick-ass female lead. This is an exceptionally written book with a great cast of the morally grey, black and white.
I'd love to know who Laken Cane really is, I think I've been missing out on a really gifted writer. This book was a freebie here on Kindle but I'd happily have paid full price for this. I'm off now to buy the others. I hope the standard of "Rune Alexander - Book 1" is maintained. Meanwhile, Do Not Disturb! I'm reading!

Rune Alexander is the badass leader of the Shiv Crew (supernatural hunters and law enforcers), and she is utterly broken and lost. It was like she was two different people; we have our strong team leader ready to stand up for her Crew and the weak, and then there’s the girl who can’t look at herself or deal with anything let alone fight the bad guys. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t mind Rune, but she wouldn’t be my favourite heroine... and constantly calling everyone ‘Baby’ just annoyed me. For me, it was the side characters who made the story especially Ellis, and I enjoyed reading Cane’s spin on werewolves, vampires and other supernaturals.
Cane has written an Urban Fantasy that certainly piques one’s interest, but I found the world building to be a bit lacking and none of the plot developments surprised me AT ALL. Shiv Crew does not end on a cliffhanger but it is definitely building up and leading into the next book in the series. I may pick up book two in the future but I’m not going to be rushing to get it anytime soon. 3.5 stars.
