Ms. Joines kept my attention from beginning to end with her strong female protagonist and suspenseful plot. I highly recommend Shoe in the Road to anyone who wants a good read.
The scene descriptions are beautifully described, creating a sense of actually being there, which adds to the colour and clarity of this novel. The story keeps driving forward (and what a car to be driven in!) to reach a thrilling conclusion in the swamp lands. The book is rich in excitement, suspense and romance. I get the feeling S.B. Joines has a real affinity to the characters and country that she uses as a canvas for this novel. I thoroughly enjoy this author's work, and would recommend if you too like this, check out 'Tears of Sand', another novel that beautifully describes this area of the world.
Boston's journey to herself is sweet and poignant. Her innocence provides for a somewhat late coming of age story with lots of twists and turns - some funny, some sad, most relatable. Written in the first person, Shoe in the Road provides for an intimate insight into Boston's thoughts and a realness to her non-traditional traveling buddies - a nasty cat and her grandmother's ashes in a jar.
Read this if you love a love story, suspense, the magic of family, humor, and women who always overcome.
When a friend suggested I give this a try, I hesitated. My friend knew I had a long business trip ahead of me and needed something to do to kill the time.
I'm so glad I had this book to read! Once I got started, it was as if the story was coming alive in my mind. This was the perfect book for my trip, I was surprised. I look forward to Sandra's next book! If it's anything like Shoe in the Road, I'm there!
