This is a beautifully written story. It is about showing kindness to the less fortunate.
Shoebox Sam has a shoe-repair shop. Each Saturday two children, Delia and Jesse spend time there.
Shoebox gives coffee, doughnuts and sometimes shoes to those who can't afford them.
The author uses simple words, yet says profound things to get her points across. The words Sam says are always kind and full of compassion.
The illustrator uses such bold, beautiful drawings. The pictures bring out the wonderful characters and make them come alive.
I highly recommend this delightful book.

I bought this book for the church library when it was getting it's major upgrade. One of the things I like about it include the fact that its characters are African American like many of the children who attend our church. It conveys a wonderful message of kindness and giving to any child. The art is very engaging as is the story.

Great book in great condition. I read it to a first grade class, and they seemed to enjoy it, although a few words needed explaining.
