I have been using bone conduction headphones for a year or so. I, like a lot of people, do not like having something in my ear. My previous pair of bone conduction headphones are from a random manufacturer on Amazon with good reviews and what I hoped would be a bright color. The color wasn't so bright, but my satisfaction with the headphones was pretty high. I tend to not listen to music on my headphones, but rather books or have telephone conversations. I hoped that a higher end pair would help me hear spoken word better over the traffic noises I often experience when walking my dogs or walking to work in the various cities I travel to frequently.

I have only had these a few days and haven't had the opportunity to try walking through city streets listening to audiobooks, but the traffic where I walk on the edges of my suburban neighborhood already indicate I will be able to hear much more with these than my old pair.

I chose OpenMove over OpenRun or any other Shokz product because of the method of charging rather than the lower cost. I actually kind of wanted the OpenRun line, but the magnetic charging cable turned me off. My OpenMove have a USB-C charging port and its growing universality sold me.

I can wear these for hours if I choose. I wore them the first day I set them up until the partial (80 percent) charge I gave them ran out. Between a four hour phone call and listening to stories as I did things around the house or walked the dogs I never had the headache feeling I would get from my old pair.

The worst thing about these is they are a bit too large for my head. I know Shokz makes 'mini' versions in the higher end lines. I hope they choose to make them in OpenMove eventually. I would happily give these to a friend with a bigger head and buy myself a new pair that moves around less on my neck. Regardless of them moving around when I lean back against something or just from other activity, the bits beside my ears still enable me to hear whatever I am trying to listen to. They feel like they want to pop out from over my ears which is mostly just slightly annoying.

Overall, I am ecstatic with this purchase and will recommend them to friends and family.

So I've had them for a couple weeks and I have to say I'm pleased. For the price point and the concept, they are worth what I paid and they perform as I understand that they should. They are adequately comfortable, loud enough, and the battery lasts an acceptable amount of time. Two things I'll mention are: If you turn them up loud enough, they will vibrate on your face, which lets you know their top limit based on my experience. Secondly, if you plug your ears or wear ear plugs, the sound is much better and clearer. I know this goes against the design concept but if you need to hear something clearly for a short period of time, this is very effective. When I'm walking through a particularly noisy environment, I will stick a finger in each ear and I can hear my audio perfectly. These are best for podcasts, audiobooks etc. and not so much for music, in my opinion. I needed them because the hard plastic wireless products would make my ear sore and even cause sores and scabs. So this is a wonderful find and alternative to that. We'll see how long they last but I'm satisfied up to this point.

No Ear Pain and Great Sound Even In Noisy Environments

I have had 4 models of 'bone-conduction' headphones, and this is the first that actually work in a noisy environment. The contact with the bone in front of the ears is both firm and comfortable. No need for ear plugs to hear the audio even in noisy places like a car with the windows down at 70MPH.

I have had at least 8 variants of 'behind the neck' headphones, bone conduction and ear covering. These are the first that don't ride on my ears and cause a certain amount of pain until calluses develop at the points of contact. These just float above the ears without even making contact. They seem to rely on the pressure in front of the ears where it is needed for audio and nowhere else. They may not fit everyone so well, but for me, they are perfect.

Highly recommended, and I am hard to satisfy.

The SHOKZ OpenMove Bone Conduction Wireless Earphones (ASIN B09BW29FJS) gives me situational awareness that ordinary in-the-ear earphones / ear buds cannot provide while inserted.

Situational awareness is really important if you walk or jog on public pathways or on residential roadways. If you partially remove ordinary earphones / ear buds, the sound degrades and situational awareness improves, but does not match the Shokz device in sound quality and situational awareness. For me, using the Shokz requires I turn up the volume to at least 70 percent, and depending on the broadcast output, as high as 100 percent. These higher volumes do not blast the sound, remember, the device uses bone conduction so the higher volume allows the speakers to vibrate sufficiently to provide adequate sound through your bones.

One broadcast I listen to is soft in a quiet environment, but in the noisy gym, it is impossible to hear. The solution is to plug my hearing ear which eliminates the ambient gym noise! Situational awareness is not that important in the gym, but during that broadcast I may not immediately know if one of the gym rats is talking to me. That same soft broadcast, using wired headphones inserted in the ear, only requires 70% volume.

Interesting note: my iPhone has warned me that my volume levels are too high! That would be true if I were using ordinary earphones or buds.

Overall, the Shokz sound quality is good though some may wish for more bass. Battery life seems very good; my gym sessions lasts about 90 minutes and the Shokz has gone 3 or 4 sessions before I recharge it. The instructions say the device will notify you when it needs to recharge but does not mention how much time you have remaining. The Shokz is worth checking out!

I compare this headphones with higher grade aeropex and openrun pro which I also own.

Disadvantages: The sound fidelity is worse but passable, I listen to podcasts and audiobooks mostly and am no audiophile so sound-wise they are OK for me - openrun pro are way ahead - mind the pro model is really a hybrid (not pure bone conduction). They are heavier but its not such a big deal for comfort, but they are shaped less comfortably around ears, I feel them unlike with openrun pro which are resting very gently I almost don't notice. Battery life is bit shorter but I get nominal listening time from them and don't find the battery life too short

Now advantages: sturdy, they feel stronger then aeropex which I had various durability issues in the past, they have much better noise cancellation as phone/computer headset then aeropex, comparable with openrun pro, I like the multifunction button better it is more sturdy giving better control with rewind/forward function. Last but not least USB-C charging this is main selling point for me with this model - I no longer have to carry separate cable for them.

I am quite pleased with them for daily use in office and home, they work unreal with LG OLED tv for surround affect (like any open ear). For sports I would still choose openrun or openrun pro, Pro have best sound quality alas with some leakage - they combine bone conduction with open speakers for high frequency.

The concept of these bone conduction headphones is a good one: by not pumping sound waves into your ear canal you can keep your hearing healthy. I'm conscious of doing this after years of playing in bands.

OK, if you're going running these might be a viable option but.......

All these seem to be are speakers that you put near your ear. I get the same effect from putting my over ear headphones either in front or behind my ears.

Also, the rigid band that connects the 2 earphones catches on your collar (even in a t-shirt) and moves them about. You can't lounge on the sofa in them as the band pulls them off your head. If I was cycling I think they'd get shifted all over the place as your head position is effectively tilted upwards so the band would be constantly touching your neck or the top of your back.

Pretty pointless really.

I've had several makes of bone conduction headsets, and this BY FAR is the best sound quality and has the lowest sound leakage - the fact that you can feel the bass in the vibrations (if you hold the "ear" bits in your fingers) rather than the previous ones I've had where they're little speakers that push against your head

The sound is outstanding for bone conduction, it's clear and has a good range, but the volume isn't loud enough if you've got any level of background noise, so if you're near traffic you hear NOTHING!!!

I'm keeping these for the gym, and around the flat, as they're pretty much pointless outside

and was delighted with them BUT I quickly realised that you can’t lay down with them on because of the cable
It wraps around the head but doesn’t lay against the head but sits away from the head prevented the head resting against pillows
So that is extremely disappointing
