I don't know why, but you can't buy these kind of tools in Canada! So I ordered 3 of these from Amazon to reattach a bridge on an old Harmony 12 string. They worked perfectly. Lightweight, and strong, I didn't have to block or support them underneath to keep the top from bending. I did have to stick 1/2" blocks to the bottom surfaces to clear a brace, and I did have to use thin pieces of wood shims under the clamping screw so as to not mar the bridge. I make no claims at all of being even close to a luthier, not even in my dreams. I'm just a picker and grinner who enjoys getting my hands on old beat up guitars and helping them make music again. Very happy with these clamps. And the shipping was relatively fair and very fast. The shipping only took 5 days! (For US shipping to Canada, that's Very Fast!)

These are very handy. However if you plan to use them on visible surfaces, you will want to modify them first. The top part of the clamp leaves a small depression in the top surface becuase the screw bulges out the plastic cap, and the bottom part of the clamp will mark the bottom surface. Some superglue and felt solved the bottom part, and I think some of those orange clamp pads intended for bar clamps placed over the existing plastic cap will solve the top issue; both extremely easy and inexpensive modifications.

I use these for guitar repairs.
They are fine - but are inexpensive for a reason.
Before using them, you will need to improve the points where it contacts whatever you are repairing. As they are, they are rather narrow and do not spread the pressure and can leave nice deep dents.

I had to glue down a bridge that was starting to raise on a 12 string guitar. Stewart-McDonald carries these job specific tools and they are high quality with a high price tag. Not being a luthier, and this being a one-time project (hopefully), the 2 clamps I purchased did the trick just fine and was half the cost!

Like some other folks here, I like using this for gluing guitar bridges, and it's sold here for about half the price that specialty luthiery stores sell it at. It's a relatively cheap, quite effective clamp for any suitable purpose that requires light-moderate clamping pressure. Like most cheap clamps, do not expect too much attention to be paid to the finish; It has a raw cast feel to it, but nothing that is uncomfortable or potentially damaging.

If you intend to use it for guitar repair, be sure to utilize cauls and supports to get the best results and to avoid damaging the instrument. With this clamp, keeping a few random-thickness scraps of wood around to whittle into cauls is a good idea.

Design flaw. First clamp ever seen that has no metal swivel/rotating screw pad. There is the thin 'non-marring' nylon screw pad, but no metal construction inside. No, it does not 'mar' the wood. It dents the wood with a little round crater. Furthermore, the metal-against-plastic pressure bearing, which tapers to a bull-nose rounded point, will wear through the plastic in no time. Returned as "defective/does not work properly" which really refers to defective design, rather a manufacturing defect.

If you are doing extremely light work, this may work for you, but in that case, something with even lighter weight, like 100% plastic construction will be even better. But it is not good for "general woodworking" like table or chair construction.

I needed to re-glue a bridge that had lifted on an old 12-string. None of the clamps I had would reach far enough into the guitar so I looked around the web and found these. I bought three clamps. They came quickly, worked perfectly, and helped me get the job done right. Recommended.

I needed to re-glue a bridge on an acoustic guitar. This clamp did the job. The guitar sound hole required that I manipulate the clamp around a little to get it into the guitar body, but once in place I put some Tite-Bond under the loose bridge, clamped it down, and 24 hours later I was restringing and playing. This clamp was well worth the cost in one use. I put off purchasing this clamp while I tried to figure out how I could make the repair with what I had on hand...my advice, just buy the clamp and be done. If I never use it to clamp another bridge, it was still worth it. It's just a clamp, but it is the right clamp!
