SHOP FOX W1668 3/4 HP Bench-Top Oscillating Drill Press
Just like its little brother, this 12-speed drill press doubles as an oscillating sander that can be used for efficient contour sanding. With more speeds, more power and more capacity this machine becomes an effective tool for heavier use. The table has a clearance hole for use while sanding. This clever design incorporates a dust collection port so your sanding jobs are less messy. With a 3/4-inch drilling capacity in steel you'll be able to tackle most any drilling job as well.
- Approx. shipping weight: 130 pounds.

This is a great drill press! It is heavy and accurate. It is obviously well made and has very little runout. It was easy to set up. Be aware, this is a BIG drill press! It might as well be a floor model it's so big. Also, I've already used the sanding option and it worked perfect. One less tool I need to buy. I ended up making a tool stand because this press is too big to sit on a regular sized table. Now that they have changed the packaging to reduce damage, I fully recommend this drill press. You won't be disappointed!
The outside box was in bad shape when delivered. The corners were all crushed or torn. But the inside box was intact and, though some parts had shifted around, there was no damage. The styrofoam packing is pretty lightweight and probably not sufficient for stuff as heavy as this, but somehow all was unscathed. As mentioned before, the finish details (especially the paint job) could be better. The table and base are flat and nicely ground, and the table was set perfectly perpendicular to the chuck right out of the box.
The unit runs smoothly and it is pretty quiet compared to my old drill press. Runout seems minimal. I didn't measure it, but I drilled several holes with an 8" long 1/2 inch bit, and the holes were round. The oscillating function is awesome and runs smoothly. I anticipate using it a lot.
I shopped for a long time for a drill press, and even though some of the reviews on this unit were scary, I decided to take a chance due to the features I was looking for and the price. I am really happy with my choice. I think it is a very good value and I expect to use this tool for many years.
-Built very Robust
-Parts fit together well, no real need to loose fit everything together.
-Contols are easy to use
-Very strong motor
-Very flat milled table, no ridges
-Instructions are a bit vague; If you are not mechanically inclined or have bever assembled a drill press before you might have a tough time with it. Parts in bags are not labled and there is no inventory list to make sure everything is there.
-The column that holds the table in place and supports the drill press itself is painted. The paint comes off when you move your work table around. Why not just leave it bare metal on the inside.
-It would be nice to have a approved list of oils and greases for the drill press. I had to call the manufacturer for this. Again if you have never used one you might not know to do that.
Great product just little things that stuck out to me that might turn off someone who does not want to fuss with trying to put it together.
Shipped no problem. The box was banged up but there was thick Styrofoam all the way around it. I agree the instructions were terrible. Most of the images were wrong or so washed out I couldn't tell what they were showing. More than half the steps were already done for me at the factory so I guess that is a plus? You definitely need two people for at least mounting the motor on top of the shaft. The holes on the base that the shaft screws into were not threaded very well on my unit. I actually broke a bolt off trying to tighten it down the last little bit. I won't be taking it off the base so it doesn't matter but still.
Drills accurately enough for anything I would want to do. The people that complain about it are probably not using a center bit or using low quality twist bits. In the future I might replace the chuck. Not necessary right now however.
My biggest gripe is the table. I feel like I have to use an unnecessary amount of force to tighten it down and raising and lowering it is clunky. I'm worried I might eventually break the knobs. I have not tried the tilt feature yet because I'm afraid I couldn't get it back to 0°. The table is actually why I didn't give this 5 stars.
I have used the oscillating sander and its awesome. Way better than I expected. I assumed it was just some half-arse feature tacked on but was really surprised. Worked great and they give you all the drums you need to get started.
Changing the belt speed is easy. Once you figure out which belts you need to move where they slip on easily if you loosen the spring pushing the motor back. I set it to 2000 RPM and probably wont be moving it from that much.
I'll update if I encounter any issues or change my mind.
