Get the best of both contractor-style and cabinet-style table saws with this Shop Fox Hybrid Table Saw. Just like our other table saws, this hybrid also has a quick-change blade guard with anti-kickback pawls that can be positioned away from the workpiece. The interchangeable true riving knife offers protection for non-through cutting operations that require you to remove the blade. Also features a serpentine belt and pulley system. True Riving Knife
The riving knife works in the same manner as the spreader on the blade guard assembly. It is a metal plate that prevents the newly cut workpiece from pinching the backside of the blade and causing kickback.
The key difference between the spreader and the riving knife is that the riving knife mounts below the blade's highest point of rotation. The height difference between the riving knife and the blade allows the workpiece to pass over the blade during non- through cuts. Which are cuts where the blade does not cut all the way through the thickness of the workpiece.

Quick Release Blade Guard
With Independent-Lifting Sides and Retractable Pawls
Reduce injury and risk with the polycarbonate blade guard. The clear guard allows the operator to see the blade cut the workpiece during operation. This guard lifts as the workpiece is pushed into the blade and remain in contact with the workpiece throughout the entire cut.
Another safety feature is the anti-kickback pawls which allow the workpiece to travel in only one direction. If the workpiece moves backwards, such as during a kickback, the pawls will dig into the workpiece to slow or stop it.

In my case (with this saw) it went together pretty well, no major issues with assembly but it did take time. The only major issue is the "tuning". As advertised, this is NOT a cabinet saw with the trunnions mounted to the cabinet, everything is mounted to the table top so it's a pain to get underneath to make adjustments.(mine needed EVERYTHING adjusted) I strongly suggest that if adjustments are necessary, do all of it BEFORE you install the wings and fence rails. This would also be a good time to throw away the miter gauge that comes with this saw. (junk)
Once this saw is tuned up, it performs great and I'm happy with my purchase. I wanted the little extra "oomph" the 220v provides. I can tell it's much lighter than my previous cabinet saw, but that's what I wanted. The top is flat, the fence is great (with decent capacity) and the whole thing wheels around my little shop easily.
This saw was a bit of a "downsize" for me so my expectations were probably a little higher than some. But with that in mind I can saw this was an overall good purchase and I'm happy with it.
