I loved how well the story is crafted and how realistic and factual it is. The author obviously knows what she is talking about whether it is culinary arts, martial arts, photography, investigation or weaponry. The details are there, well embedded into the tale, there are no shortcuts taken or vague references, but actual factual details, just the right amount information without being overpowering or boring.
Another thing I adored about the tale was the vivid images the author draws with her words. I swear I saw in my mind's eyes Ky boxing, every single muscle in detail, the sweat flying in the air... Can we talk about swooning?! The sensual images that Gemma Laine sees with her photographer's eyes when looking at Ky where some of the most tantalizing illustrations, the times when Ky and Gemma practice martial arts together are such seductive scenes, the heat is high without actual physical intimacy at that moment.
The story gives time and space, within the suspense and the case still staying intense, in a natural setting for Ky and Gemma to get to know each other, to develop a real relationship, to find the unwavering trust, and for the true feelings to develop. Gemma and Ky have so much in common, it was easy to see the possibilities of the relationship. They have similar hobbies and values making it natural to find the connection and share about their lives.
I enjoyed the book one in the series, Cooking With Kandy, yet Shot At Love took the tale to even higher level. It is truly enjoyable, entertaining, well build, with likable, relatable characters with growth and development. The menace is constant and deadly, the danger is palpable, the romance swept me off my feet, and I just wanted to inhale the tale while savoring every morsel and word... Ah!
~ Five Spoons!
It is romance suspense at it's finest.
This love story is about Gemma & Ky.
Gemma Laine is a world famous photographer. While walking the streets of New York, taking pictures of interesting faces, she captures of series of pictures she didn't expect. She is questioned by FBI agent, Kyros Pappandreos. After being released from questioning, she is attacked in her home, by a man wanting the pictures she took. Gemma, told him the FBI has it. He was also sent to silence her.
Luckily, she has been trained in marital arts.
When Ky sees, & hears what happened, he decides, they need to put her in protective custody.
It is a exciting, suspenseful, sexy story, that keeps you on the edge of your seat, till the very end.
A MUST READ BY EVERYONE!!!
The police and FBI are not the only ones seeking those pictures. After an attempt on Gemma life, Special Agent Kyros Pappandreos insists on taking Gemma into protective custody. In the mob hit, two of his men and a crucial witness were killed. He’s not taking any chances with her.
What neither Ky or Gemma anticipate is the heat that sizzles between them as Ky tries to keep Gemma out of the mob’s hands.
The storyline keeps you enthralled with the perfect balance of romance and suspense. It’s no surprise that Peggy’s characters grab hold of you and don’t let go until you’ve turned the last page and closed the book with a satisfied sigh. I highly recommend A Shot at Love and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I really liked Gemma! She was definitely a "warrior woman", but more importantly, there was a LOGICAL reason for her to be such! I could really identify with her, even down to her Diet Mountain Dew habit! I liked the descriptions of her pictures, I could almost imagine seeing them along with Kyros! Kyros was all right, definitely FBI material, but I can't quite figure out what was off about him. However, I did like reading about his Greek family and recipes!
The suspense plot was well done, but a little rushed. I was quite surprised by the identity of the mole, and would have liked to see more time with the crime lord. I also liked seeing the blurb for the next book in the series, and it definitely got me interested in reading it! All things considered, I really recommend this book!
***I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley.***
Gemma definitely finds herself in the wrong place at the right time and now her life is in danger. With Special Agent Kyros Pappandreos in charge of the case as well as her protection, her heart might be in danger as well!
A must read. I highly recommend it.
