About the Author

Karel (Charles Karel Bouley) is a syndicated talk show host with a show heard on KGO AM 810 San Francisco as well as in five other markets (KRXA, KGOE, KYNS, KJRB, Green1640 Atlanta). Karel continues his #1 talk show at Citadel/ABC's flagship station, KGO AM 810 San Francisco (#1 overall station) and made history for KFI AM 640 Los Angeles. He is an entertainment reporter and film critic (having worked with KNX 1070 Los Angeles CBS, Billboard, The Advocate and others). The show is available at iTunes as a free podcast He is a blogger for the HuffingtonPost.com and has been a columnist for the #1 gay/lesbian newsmagazine The Advocate at Advocate.com as well as Billboard and others. His book of essays "You Can't Say That" is published by Alyson Press His music is available at iTunes and other online stores and he maintains a blog, podcasts and message boards at www.thekarelshow.com His live stage show "Karel Stands Up" mixes politics and humor and sells out consistently. Karel also appears as a guest on topical issues having appeared on such cable news networks as CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. Karel starred with Ryan Seacrest as a lead on TNN's "Ultimate Revenge" (an improved practical joke show a la Punk'd) created by industry veteran Woody Fraiser. Karel produced, directed and wrote a marriage equality PSA that won second place in GLAAD's "I Do" contest, being aired at OutFest and on national television, featuring 12 youth and a cameo by Thomas Jefferson. He is a voting member of Grammy (NARAS) having released five dance singles and one complete album, Karel, Dance or Else. He continues to record. Karel made history with his late partner (on and off air) Andrew Howard as the duo became the first openly gay male couple to host a major market talk show when they took over afternoon drive at KFI AM 640 Los Angeles (following Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura on the #1 talk station in the country). Upon Andrew's untimely death in 2001, Karel went solo and personally changed state law in California so he could pursue a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his partner. He does his shows from his studio at the home they shared, Park Howard, in Long Beach, CA, where he lives with his dogs and cat.

Used to listen to Karel's show all the time, but he's become so hostile to anyone that doesn't agree with him that I stopped listening.
If you agree with his politics (and are very into politics), this may be a good read for you, but i found it hard to get through. Just didn't hold my attention. It's sitting on a shelf and I've not even half-finished reading it. Probably bound for the next charity pickup.

Whether you agree or disagree with Karel( and he has his honest opinions!) I found this large book a fine recapitulation of the years since 2006.

The title of the book is laughable, as Bouley is no legend (literary or otherwise) such as Don Quixote. Read his bio above and it says it all: everything that made Bouley and his opinions relevant for 15 minutes went away long ago. His most recent claim to "fame" (infamy, actually) - being fired from KGO for using the F-bomb on air while wishing an outspoken American dead during the 2008 presidential campaign - is what pretty much defines him and this book: more public bitterness and whining. Even the fact that he's berated Amazon customers above for their less than fawning reviews of this book says it all: his book is not worth the money, and his opinions aren't worth the time. If I could give this exercise in narcissism a zero vote I would - it's simply just more of what Bouley's colleagues have been saying behind his back for years: Everything in it is "me-me-me", which is pretty much all you ever get from Karel. That the book is Amazon ranked #2,640,492 should tell you something. Unless you're gonna buy it to give as a gift to someone you don't like, save your money for something else.

This has got to be one of the biggest hunks of junk on the market. The author disjointedly whines and moans his way through tirade after tirade. His thought process is scattered, his writing atrocious. No respectable publisher would have printed this drivel, thus its release via a "self-publishing" outlet. Don't waste your time. Don't insult your intelligence. You can find much better fare on current events from oh-so-many sources, authors, etc. "Shouting at Windmills," however, belongs in the trash bin.

I saw on the author's website where he is trolling for good reviews. It must have backfired on him. It only served to remind me that I did read this book, and then instantly erased it from my library. The tone is shrill, the whining is boring. What is interesting is the level of narcissism that one person can reach. He used to be interesting, he used to be relevant. Now it seems he takes the scraps of time that radio hands to him.

He is so arrogant in person and all he talks about is himself on the radio and become so boring and old. The book should be called "BS about myself from 2000-2011. I understand you talk about your "ex", but can you just move on and get another boyfriend!!! Plus, he talks about his show at the "Niko" in San Francisco and its the same jokes every month. I think he is running out material and not further his career for the last 11 years from KGO, 960 Green and back to KGO. My suggestion to him would be that be humble and not arrogant and listen to what people have to say and learn from that, otherwise it will bite you in the butt like last time. Take that as a word of advice it must might help you. Arrogance always come around and goes around.
