"The whole time I was reading "Show up Dead" by Lisa Shiroff, I felt like I could have been watching it as a TV Show--Ms. Shiroff's writing was clear and descriptive, with an ever-present tension of high stakes as there is a mysterious murder surrounding her heroine that throws her whole world into chaos (sometimes quite humorously). I liked that the characters seemed "real" (not the stereotypical cardboard cutouts we see so much of in these types of books),and the dialogue felt so genuine, like how people REALLY talk to each other (especially Peri and her Ma, and with the friends Mel and Jacqueline). I definitely enjoyed reading this and think almost anyone will find something about it they like. I'd recommend this to my friends and family with no reservations. The ending was great and I was wondering how it would all tie up... it works and I was surprised by the outcome. It was surprisingly complex and intelligent and really outside the normal way of murdering someone... and I liked that. Recommend." Cory with Indie Book Reviewers.
"Show up Dead" by Lisa Shiroff grabbed me from the opening pages and didn't let go until the very end. It is rare to find a book that keeps my attention all the way through, but this one did. I was totally caught up in the whirlwind of events, and loved reading all the behind the scenes action of Peri's dilemma and the investigation. Nothing lights my fire more than deception and unpredictable twists...and "Show Up Dead" did not disappoint! If I had only one minor problem was that it was a tad hard to follow at some parts because it almost seemed too fast paced at certain times and I thought some key events or revelations were almost glossed over and lost some emotional impact. But it was well edited and I literally could not put down my Kindle during the last 30% or so and was surprised at the guilty party (and impressed with the creativity in the murder!!). Recommend to fans of the mystery genre...heck, for anyone who just enjoys a great, intelligently-written, and exciting read!" Gillian H. from Indie Book Reviewers
"I'll admit that "Show up Dead" wouldn't be my normal type of read (I'm more of a fantasy and romance gal) but I've been wanting to read more out of my comfort zone lately and expand my tastes... the premise and sample looked intriguing so I thought I'd give it a chance. I'd so glad I did! It was far more exciting than I would've guessed, and I found myself flipping the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen. I was totally wrapped up in the drama and loved Peri, Melissa,Ma, (and the others) and really felt like I was part of the whole experience, from start to finish. There were some really shocking twists that you *really* don't expect with the characters, and I liked how everything came together in the end... was really unusual. This was a quick read with lots of exciting twists and turns, and I think that Lisa Shiroff made a murder/mystery novel fan out of me!" Brenda from Indie Book Reviewers
"What fun! Almost non-stop drama and a fast moving plot kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The writing was excellent, very few errors as far as I could tell which is always a huge plus on my end--I hate sloppy editing! Really enjoyed the fun cast of characters (especially Ma), and enjoyed the relationship with Peri and her friends. "Show Up Dead" has an unpredictable plot, and a sassy and smart heroine in Peri, infused with a compelling storyline - felt really believable even for being so 'unique' (never heard of a 'Lifestyle Manager' before but can I have one please? I was really impressed with Lisa Shiroff's writing style; her short chapters, brisk pacing and strong word choice works well in this genre. Definitely think Shiroff is an author to watch for in the future, and recommend for fans of humor/ detective mysteries." Steph Coleman

Peri Milano’s business card states “Lifestyle Manager”, a title she invented to take care of planning, coordinating and organizing routine events for her rich Philadelphia clients. Or in the case of Shelby Wooley, an unusual event—a funeral-themed party. If only he hadn’t shown up dead.
Show Up Dead is a humorous whodunit with delightful characters. Peri unwittingly investigates the case with the assistance (whether she wants it or not) of her complex, quirky mother, Honey Potts. One of Honey’s favorite pastimes is watching TV crime shows so naturally she fashions herself a detective. (She also calls Peri “poopsie” in public.) Peri’s cousin Melissa is also an enjoyable character, providing research and quips to the cause. Even the characters you aren’t supposed to like, such as ex-husband Todd, have fun qualities. Throughout the book the other characters insinuate Peri is a control freak, stressed, uptight and a busy body. But Peri is the glue that holds the story together.
The author, Lisa Shiroff, has a nice, easy style where the laughs sneak up on you. I highly recommend this book and hope she brings Peri, Honey and the gang back for more laughs and mystery.
So the last thing she needs is a suspicious death throwing a monkey wrench into the works. But this is Philadelphia, and even Ben Franklin needed to get out of there eventually.
Author Lisa Shiroff does a spectacular job of creating the literary impression of many things going on at once, and keeps Peri managing them all. "Show Up Dead" is a fun story with enjoyable characters, and Shiroff's formidable sense of humor runs rampant throughout. This was a very enjoyable book.
I'm now a huge fan and I surely wish this went into a series!
Thank you for all the gut busting laughs!
