Editorial Reviews

". . . Consider me blown away! I read "Show Up Dead" almost in one sitting (much to my own amazement). Lisa Shiroff is a natural writer. I was hooked in by the way she weaved so many interesting characters and twisted story lines together to create a wholly addicting story that I couldn't put down until the final conclusion. It was fast-paced, with snappy dialogue and free from many clichés that riddle this genre.  I was curious about who the guilty person was (no spoilers) and let's just say I didn't guess correctly - which is good! I'd love to read more from this author in the future...highly recommend!"  Indie Book Reviewers

"The whole time I was reading "Show up Dead" by Lisa Shiroff, I felt like I could have been watching it as a TV Show--Ms. Shiroff's writing was clear and descriptive, with an ever-present tension of high stakes as there is a mysterious murder surrounding her heroine that throws her whole world into chaos (sometimes quite humorously). I liked that the characters seemed "real" (not the stereotypical cardboard cutouts we see so much of in these types of books),and the dialogue felt so genuine, like how people REALLY talk to each other (especially Peri and her Ma, and with the friends Mel and Jacqueline). I definitely enjoyed reading this and think almost anyone will find something about it they like. I'd recommend this to my friends and family with no reservations. The ending was great and I was wondering how it would all tie up... it works and I was surprised by the outcome. It was surprisingly complex and intelligent and really outside the normal way of murdering someone... and I liked that. Recommend." Cory with Indie Book Reviewers.

"Show up Dead" by Lisa Shiroff grabbed me from the opening pages and didn't let go until the very end. It is rare to find a book that keeps my attention all the way through, but this one did. I was totally caught up in the whirlwind of events, and loved reading all the behind the scenes action of Peri's dilemma and the investigation. Nothing lights my fire more than deception and unpredictable twists...and "Show Up Dead" did not disappoint! If I had only one minor problem was that it was a tad hard to follow at some parts because it almost seemed too fast paced at certain times and I thought some key events or revelations were almost glossed over and lost some emotional impact. But it was well edited and I literally could not put down my Kindle during the last 30% or so and was surprised at the guilty party (and impressed with the creativity in the murder!!). Recommend to fans of the mystery genre...heck, for anyone who just enjoys a great, intelligently-written, and exciting read!" Gillian H. from Indie Book Reviewers

"I'll admit that "Show up Dead" wouldn't be my normal type of read (I'm more of a fantasy and romance gal) but I've been wanting to read more out of my comfort zone lately and expand my tastes... the premise and sample looked intriguing so I thought I'd give it a chance. I'd so glad I did! It was far more exciting than I would've guessed, and I found myself flipping the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen. I was totally wrapped up in the drama and loved Peri, Melissa,Ma, (and the others) and really felt like I was part of the whole experience, from start to finish. There were some really shocking twists that you *really* don't expect with the characters, and I liked how everything came together in the end... was really unusual. This was a quick read with lots of exciting twists and turns, and I think that Lisa Shiroff made a murder/mystery novel fan out of me!"  Brenda  from Indie Book Reviewers

"What fun! Almost non-stop drama and a fast moving plot kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The writing was excellent, very few errors as far as I could tell which is always a huge plus on my end--I hate sloppy editing! Really enjoyed the fun cast of characters (especially Ma), and enjoyed the relationship with Peri and her friends. "Show Up Dead" has an unpredictable plot, and a sassy and smart heroine in Peri, infused with a compelling storyline - felt really believable even for being so 'unique' (never heard of a 'Lifestyle Manager' before but can I have one please? I was really impressed with Lisa Shiroff's writing style; her short chapters, brisk pacing and strong word choice works well in this genre. Definitely think Shiroff is an author to watch for in the future, and recommend for fans of humor/ detective mysteries." Steph Coleman

About the Author

Lisa Shiroff is a comedic fiction writer celebrating the often unnoticed but beautifully bizarre in life. For years, she worked professionally as a corporate freelance writer and graphic designer. Not only can she Photoshop her way into a royal wedding, but she can write a PR piece that will make a cat in a tattered wolf costume sound like a Westminster Dog Show champion. But the struggle to keep her tongue out of her cheek was giving her TMJ symptoms and she decided she'd had enough. It was time she joined the ranks of those intent on using humor to balance out the negatives in the universe. Now she is unleashing her comedic perspective on anyone willing to take the risk to read whatever she writes. Having spent her formative years in small-town America, Lisa mastered the ability to amuse herself and others with tales about people we all wished lived next door (and some who really did). She’s bringing those stories to light in novels with funny characters experiencing sometimes inane circumstances and always finding happy endings (yes, she’s a sucker for them). Almost living the American Dream, Lisa lives in south Jersey with her husband, two kids, and a dog. Alas, she has no picket fence. --This text refers to the paperback edition.
