Definitely worth reading!
That was a long time ago, but over another breakfast a year ago Dave described to me some of the lessons he has learned over the years of showing up. Those lessons and the compelling stories behind them are the substance of this book. Admittedly, knowing Dave and some of the folks in his stories brought back memories and undoubtedly influenced my love for this little book. But the stories I hadn't yet heard brought tears as well. Simple, yet sacrificial moments can mean everything to both the initiator and the recipient.
Dave's well-told stories often illustrate the idea of Shalom... the Judeo-Christian concept of "the way things were meant to be." We can't fix everything in our broken world but what Dave shows... through his own humble successes and regrettable failures... is that we can make a literal life-and-death difference in a few lives (including our own). All we have to do is Show Up.
