I am the weight loss/diet book expert—my book shelves are lined with shelves of books on the subject—each one appeared to be the solution, only to leave me disappointed and disillusioned—another failure. I made a promise to myself to not look through another “diet book”. Then I came across “Show your Food Who’s Boss”. I skeptically agreed to read the book, figuring it would be another book of disappointment and disillusionment.
This book was different—this one was actually making sense… “What works for someone else may not be the solution for you.” That’s so simple and yet so profound—a lightbulb moment. This book is filled with freedom—a freedom to explore the “whys” to my issues, to look deep below the surface to find out what was really making me tick. The author even recommends reading the parts you need and giving “permission” to skip around and not have to do them in order” (my paraphrase).

The other thing I enjoyed from this book was it was readable—this isn’t filled with huge scientific or psychological mumbo-jumbo—it’s from the author’s heart, based on her own experience, a very open, vulnerable heart to share her journey and open her life up to the reader.
If you have struggled with your weight your whole life, or a good portion, I urge you to give this a try—this may be the key that unlocks that door.

When I first saw this book I figure it was just another diet book. Every-time go on a diet I gain weigh. But I was wrong. It is not a diet book but helpful strategies to find ways that works for you. It is a easy and quick read. The book takes you on a journey not a quick fix..

I found most the Scripture helpful and encouraging. It is a good book for Christian women. who struggle with food and their weight.

After reading Mary Lou’s book, I’m left feeling empowered over food choices, not just for me but also for my husband and our three girls! Mary Lou shares her story in such a candid way and I am encouraged by the success she has maintained over the years. I am excited to incorporate the wisdom she shares and also teach my girls to really listen to what their bodies need instead of wasting precious energy and time being bossed around by food. Mary Lou's book helps the reader "customize" a plan that works best for them! As a life coach, I'm always interested in an "inside-out" approach instead of an "outside-in", like so many plans out there. Mary Lou focuses on the freedom that comes from her approach and weight-loss naturally follows. This book may very well be the last you'll ever need!

Who ever thought that food can talk? In Mary Lou's "Show Your Food Who's Boss: Gain Freedom, Lose Weight & Keep It Off" I got to understand that one builds a relationship with food that might be healthy or dangerous. The book is simple and to the point. She sandwiched it between Scriptures however it has the potential to reach anyone who is struggling with weight or just looking to have a healthy relationship with food. The book has short yet challenging chapters that gives one a guideline on how to keep the weight permanently off. I recommend this book for moms and dads who have teenagers , for anyone who want to have a healthy relationship with food and for those who struggles to keep the weight off, it will challenge and yet comfort you with the way forward to healthy living. “Keep your focus on making one positive and powerful change right now – one that fits you…” I love that Mary Lou writes from the perspective that we are all unique individuals that need to focus on embracing what does work, and does not work, for YOU. This is in such contrast to the “this diet, that program, last product you’ll ever need” approach. What a breath of fresh and positively encouraging air!

Mary Lou writes in a very readable, personable, and caring style. She speaks from her heart and realm of experience which makes the book authentic. It helps us examine our relationship with food by investigating our perspectives, mind-sets, and attitudes through activities and questions at the end of each chapter. Thereby, facilitating change from the inside-out, so that we can make healthy choices and have life changing results.

Another great aspect is the on-line community of support through “Let’s Connect”, so individuals can bond with others who are on this journey. God designed us to live life with “one another” and having adventure buddies makes our lives that much richer as we cheer each other onward. As Mary Lou encourages, “You can be a change maker and help people you love to live in freedom.”

I have read so many diet books and tried so many different diets, low carb, counting calories and whatever the latest phase is, to no avail. You take it off, you put it back on, you take it off, you put it back on. Mary Lou's book is a fresh perspective on weight loss and our relationship with food. It is easy to read, based on God's Word and gives practical ways to change the way we look at food and take back the control it has on us. The fastest way to change our life is to change our mindset, this book is a wonderful guide to help in that process. One size does not fit all and Mary Lou's own journey through this process has given me hope, wonderful tools and another way to look at my relationship with food. If you are on the yo-yo journey as I have been, I highly recommend this book.
