After watching the documentary on Netflix, I Had to read the book! As an actor on the front side of the camera, I always marvel when I'm on set how everything seems to run like a well-oiled machine - 25-150 people running around like their butts are on fire, making sure everything and everyone is where they're supposed to be at the exact right moment. The technical side always fascinates me, especially when viewing the final cut.

Tara Bennett has 'caught' this world at its best - and the not-so-best parts Hart Hanson said it best "...running an American show is like sex...no matter how much you ask around or how many courses you attend there's no real preparation for the real thing."

Kudos to Ms Bennett for such an excellent read, and to all the people who's hard work makes sure we are entertained week after week. (And for providing us 'talent' with work! - if not for them...) 5 Thumbs up!

This book gives solid advice and behind the scenes narrative to what it's like to run a TV show. I'm new to the business and this (along with many other great books) helped me to very quickly learn what I needed to know without having experienced it for myself. Also very entertaining for those that are just curious about what it's like to run a TV show.

This book reads as though the author interviewed the show runners using an audio recorder, had the interviews transcribed, and then copied and pasted sections of the transcripts under different topic headers, mixing all the show runners’ voices into a stream of consciousness text, separated into topic chapters. There is a lot of interesting information here, but it is sooooooo hard to read that it hurts. If you do not mind wading through it, have at it.

An excellent book that gives plenty of insight into what show runners are, what they do, the challenges they face and the influence they have. A great variety of voices gives a broad spectrum of perspectives.

One of the most monumental creative tasks of our day, that of a showrunner, is explored by the best in the business in this fantastic book. This is a must for all creatives, regardless of your medium. You will be fascinated, you will learn and you will be inspired. Tara once again proves she knows television like no other.

I like this one a lot. I have a lot of interest in the subject so I don't know if there was a lot of new information but it was still a fun, quick read. I love behind the scenes looks at television and I liked the mix of comedy and drama. The best part, I hope, was the long reference sheets in the back to websites for further information and hopefully a little help in how to break into the business.

Anyway, it's more than worthy if you like the subject matter. I'm also going to check out the documentary when it airs.
