With shun's incredibly sharp, clean edge, there is no need for serrations in your steak knife. The knife simply glides through your steak effortlessly. The clean cut helps ensure your steak loses less juice and keeps the juicy flavor where it belongs-in the steak and in your mouth. And the gorgeous looks of the premier steak knife is practically guaranteed to enhance your dining experience. Elegant and beautiful, the shun premier line of knives is unlike any knives you've owned. Featuring layered damascus steel for strength, the hand-hammered finish (known as 'tsuchime' in Japanese) lends not only to the beauty, but creates the hollow-ground feature that reduces knife-drag and prevents food from sticking to the blade. Ultra-thin and incredibly sharp, these blades feature a 16-degree blade angle making the blade flexible, but much sharper than traditional western knives. The gorgeous Packwood handles in walnut finish are both sleek and stylish, and are shaped to fit the palm of your hand in a variety of secure and comfortable grips. The shun logo is embossed on the end cap, making these knives beautiful in and out of the knife block. Incredibly thin, sharp blades, stylish finishing details and created in the Japanese styling that shun is famous for; you know your premier of knives will work just as hard as you do in your kitchen, and be around for generations to come. Hand washing only; limited lifetime warranty.

These knives are very light, extremely sharp, and pretty as all heck. They are built strong enough that I'm pretty sure they will be passed on to a new owner when I'm gone, and they will be in the same condition they are now.
First I'll give my deduction of 1 star. The "hand hammered" finish is in fact a machine hammered finish. All four steak knives have identical hammer marks... all of the blades share the same hammer marks on each side. If these were hand hammered, there would be some variation in the hammer marks, there really is none. That being said...
Shun Premier knifes are just amazing. These steak knives are no exception. The handles are light and the blade is wide and thin with the razor sharp edge pushing from the handle at a relatively aggressive cutting angle. They are delicate and precise. The perfect knife for that thick steak that can handle a 2" cut of prime rib roast without trying.
These knives are pretty large. They make all of the other steak knives I've used seem anemic even though most of them had more weight to them. They also look like they should weigh more, but that's mostly due to how thin and tall these blades are. And, while I think I'd like a little more weight in them, they handle so comfortably and precisely.
I've never really owned a really nice steak knife before, but I've used quite a few fancy sets at friend's houses. These knives fit my steak slicing habits perfectly. I honestly can't find fault with these. They're gorgeous, they're very finely crafted, the blade to handle geometry and ergonomics are excellent. They rest gently in the hand cutting a 1.5" ribeye just how I want it to cut.
The downside is really the case. I would have liked a nice, high quality case for these knives, you just get a rather sturdy cardboard box with the knives in foam. It's really nice for a cardboard box, but it certainly isn't the wooden case that comes with the Shun Elite Steak Knife Set.
Each one of these knives is of the same forged quality as any of their other knives. That's what really sets them apart from other companies set's steak knives. Yeah, they're terribly expensive, but I think they're worth it.
