I purchased a pair of Shure HPAEC840 ear pads to replace the stock ones on my Philips SHP9500S headphones. To my surprise it works really well. If you know about the Philips SHP9500S you'll know a bit of modding is required to change the stock ear pads. A lot of posts and videos online are using the Brainwavz pads. I tried it but the increase depth in the ear cup changes the sound quality for me. Treble becomes harsher and bass response decreases because your ear are now further away from the driver. On the other hand this pair of Shure pads maintains the depth hence the sound quality while still being very comfortable to wear. After the mod it's even easier to put on than the Brainwavz ones. It's a very snug fit but not too difficult to apply. And the pads just look like they are designed for the SHP9500. I'm very satisfied.

If you have ever considered replacing your stock pads on your SHP9500's, these are the ones to get.
After going through the process of ripping the dirty, itchy, old pads out of the headphones, with just a bit of effort you can get these around the rings and they fit perfectly. No popping off, and best of all they actually make the headphones sound better.
They alleviate the fact that for most the SHP9500's are too loose on the head, increasing the clamping for just a touch, to keep them more snug, while not being uncomfortable.
They also don't change the tone of the headphones, but do give them a bit of a punchier low end. They won't turn your SHP9500's into bass cannons, but they also won't destroy the sound signature like something like the Brainwavz would.

Note: I wear glasses, these pads are still comfy after many hours of use.
The stock pads on the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x proved uncomfortable after long periods of time so I bought these in pursuit of more comfortable use. These Shure Pads deliver exactly what the doctor ordered, I'm comfortable 4+ hours after the point where the old pads would hurt my ears. So in that regard, this is a 5 star product.
There is most definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, an unquestionably noticeable difference in sound between the stock ATH-M50x pads and these Shure HPAEC940 pads. However, it's not a dramatic difference, nor is it a deal breaker, or even a problem. It makes little (no) difference in gaming, watching media, casual music listening, and even in actual music & video production. I would actually recommend these pads for editors and musicians because they make your sesh comfier.
It's not like you can't hear the bass anymore or anything like that, it is only a touch quieter/less punchy than what you're accustomed to with the stock pads. I guess some soundwaves leak out of the softer material. I keep my old pads in the bag these pads come in if I ever need to take a closer "look" at the low end of any sound. That hasn't been necessary and the Shure pads are treating me well and holding up to daily use and travel. Reccomended.

The HPAEC440 are PERFECT for Sony V6 & 7506 headphones. Awesome fit, comfort, feel and sound isolation. Great price too..!
Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2015Style: HPAEC440Verified Purchase
I recently purchased these for replacing my worn out Sony MDR-7506 headphone ear pads. All I can say is WOW !!!! These are absolutely perfect for them. They have a smooth surface whereas the original Sony ear pads were sort of crinkled in appearance. These create a a perfect seal and the sound is awesome - I should have replaced the much worn Sony's sooner. They are also extremely comfy, very soft and feel great on my head and completely encircle my ears. Installation was extremely easy - 5 minutes tops from opening the box to having them on the headphones and plugged in. There are a number of reviews on this Amazon site that state these pads are way too loose for the Sony''s V6 and 7506. That is INCORRECT or AT LEAST MISLEADING as they are referring to the HPAEC840 pads which are bigger and would be loose on the Sony headhphones. Apparently all the reviews for Shure replacement pads are lumped together in the reviews here on Amazon. These pads (HPAEC440) are smaller than the 840's and fit perfectly on the Sony 7506. I believe that the 7506 and Sony V6 headphones are very, very similar in design and structure so I would expect these to fit the same on those. If you want these for replacement of Sony ear pads, just make sure you buy the ones for the Shure HPAEC440. I placed these right on top of the Sony pads I removed and they are exactly the same size however the Shure provides a little more room for your ear inside. The outside or part of the pads that fit on the Sony ear cups appear to be almost identical. So for you Sony V6 and 7506 owners looking for some awesome pads (at a great price too) look no further - buy these. I feel sure you'll be very satisfied.

Awesome sound and build but not made for larger ears.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 2, 2020Style: HPAEC1540Verified Purchase
Very high build quality. Excellent materials used. Very strong stitching. Even the faux leather stretch material is correct stuff for the job with a stitched edge and doesn't become baggy after fitment like the ZMF cowhide pads and dekoni pads I have which stretched out alot after the first fitment and didn't really shrink back to a tight fit.
A little pricey for fabric ear pads but as long as they don't change the construction from what it is, I think it's very reasonable value. Driver is close to the ear so lots of mid and treble clarity with refined medium/controlled bass.
The only gripe is the earcup inside diameter is too small ~65mm tall. So for larger ears is more an "on the ear" rather than "over the ear" fit. Really wanted these to work for me on my t50rp's as they sound awesome but just didn't fit my ears. Really wish they'd make them 70/75mm tall inside.

An excellent replacement for my worn-out ATH M50x Ear Pads
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2019Style: HPAEC840Verified Purchase
Got these to replace my worn out ear pads on my M50x headphones. Read a bunch of reviews on what to get and this was a great choice.
Sound was an important factor for me and the difference in audio is somewhat negligible, I couldn't switch pads fast enough to make a direct comparison but switching forwards and backwards between these and the old ones, I noticed that the sound stage sounds slightly less wide to my ears, and it requires a little extra power to get the same volume when using the Shure pads. Some of this is countered by the drivers sitting slightly closer to my ears which seem to help with the sound quality slightly. Overall, I don't believe it truly makes enough difference in sound for most people to worry - the other benefits of the Shure pads are worth the ever so slight cost to sound. (Bear in mind I am comparing to a very worn set of M50 pads rather than comparing new with new).
The area around the ear is wider (good for people with larger ears who don't want their ears touching the pads themselves) and the pads make the grip on the head feel lighter because of the extra surface area of contact. The pads aren't as thick though so the driver sits a little closer to the ear, which I like.
The Shure pads seem to keep my ears slightly warmer and with a little higher chance of sweating, but I believe part of this is down to the fact that the M50 pads were so worn when I changed them that they basically looked like Velour pads. Compared with new M50 pads, I am certain it would be very similar in the warmth and sweat categories.
The pads do sit a lot looser on the cups than the M50 pads, not so loose that they have fallen off however. I believe this to be a non-issue.
I honestly think that anyone getting these will be very happy with them on M50 headphones.

Great fit for philips SH99500

put these on shp9500
once you get the original ring out of the shp 9500 the shure 1840 fit tight and snug the ring and clip back on with no issues, theirs is no need to cut anything to clip the pads back, however you need to stretch them for a few minutes beforehand and have a good grip on them while putting them on as it can be a bit tricky, they look like they too small but it does fit and looks a good fit too once one much better.
pads are about 25% smaller than stock and is over ear fit
very comfortable fit feels nice against skin, ears are close to the driver and doesn't get hot
also as the shure 1840 is slightly thicker than stock you get a slight increase in clamp as the original clamp was very very weak this a good increase and headphones are firmer in place compared to before
sound quality
stays true to the original signature with a neutral sound with a very slight difference in a good way
they dont leak sound as much as stock and sound more intimate then stock, its kinda like the Sennhiser hd599 but with bigger sound stage
- sound stage stock sounds very open and airy while shure1840 sounds open but sound a bit confined due to pads being of a more snug fit with less leakage thats why you get more detail
- More detail and clarity mid and treb
- improved bass and sub bass (doesn't make them a bass heavy just cleaner more refined)
- imaging same as stock but noticed slightly sharper due to better overall sound detail
all the above tests were done simply connecting to motherboard (b450) audio with stereo only no virtual surround sound software used ie dolby atmos windows sonic etc. tested with music and pc games
you might get much better results with dac/amp set up for stereo and if you use virtual surround software it will sound totally different as these sounds will change the signature

Perfect for M50X
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 26, 2019Style: HPAEC940Verified Purchase
Bought these as I didn't like the original pads on my ATH M50x's and j wasn't disappointed. They are so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing them when I first tried them out. That's no exaggeration either. They also brought the sound back to the headphones that I lost when I had been using the brainwaves HM5s. A lesson well learned.
These are not made for the M50x however they do fit. I would say they are slightly loose but as long as you're not a heavy handed person you'll be fine with them staying on.

1540 pads are THE pads for T50RP Mk3s
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 21, 2020Style: HPAEC1840Verified Purchase
I went through most of Brainwavz's pads before finally getting the 1540 pads for my pair of Fostex T50RP Mk3s. Angled hybrids, XL sheep leather and XL velour all had the issue of piercing sibilance. The only ones that didn't were the Shure 1840 pads, which to my ears sound very similar to the 1540s, but are lacking on the comfort side of things.
I initially bought 1840 pads due to their price relative to the 1540s. But after using them the lack of comfort made me seek a replacement. Mind you, the 1840s are still miles better than the stock T50RP pads. If they are in stock and you're short on money, I would recommend them. But if you want the best sound and comfort, the 1540 pads cannot be beaten.
