Great sound, less than comfortable design

The earphones have great sound and truly do isolate the sound so that you don't have to crank your music to hear it (be careful when you're walking down the street!). Unfortunately, in order to do so they have a weird design that doesn't seem to fit well into my ears (maybe they'll be fine in yours, though, who knows). The cord doesn't hang down from your ear (like an Apple earphone does), but enters your ear canal almost from the top of the ear, so that the cord wraps over the top of your ear and then behind it. In order to jog with them, I have to wrap them over the top of my ear, tighten them at the nape of my neck, and then let the cord hang down behind me, otherwise they fall out of my ears. I find the constant pressure on the top of my ears to be annoying, and if I wear them too long they start to give me a headache. The only downside for me is their design, though this design is probably necessary in order to give the best sound quality. If I could go back, I'd probably buy a pair that doesn't wrap over the top of the ear, even if it meant compromising sound quality a bit. If that doesn't bother you, then most definitely invest in these, because they really are the best quality earphones I've ever tried, and they're really affordable on here.

Good buy but please read down relative to the foam around wires

Unfortunately, wire connections to the ear buds failed today after 15 months. From jiggling I could tell it was the connection directly at the appliance that fits in the ear (both sides). For $60 these were a good buy but I expected 2-3 years use. I only wear them when exercising and in the Gulf Coast heat, sweat may have been a factor in the deterioration of the connection. I read reviews and was confident when I purchased that they were a good buy. Indeed, they were a good buy but without a longer expected life I will try a different model. The 4* rating is based on the +'s vs -'s, giving the benefit despite early failure. My view is Shure makes good products for the money, always have.

The buds still work if I spend a lot of time jiggling but I'll be replacing them.

Aug 20, 2012 update: In an effort to improve the connections I pulled the sealing foam from around where the connections go into the ear buds. The sound is back and I will continue to use these as long as possible even though I bought a replacement. All I can think of is the foam collects sweat which shorts the wiring. Guess I could have put them in the oven to dry :-)

May 6, 2013 update: Ear buds are still working fine with no problems, including when walking at the park (and sweating). Sound is high quality to my old ears and I am not using the replacements (disclosure: I have a high frequency hearing loss in one ear and high frequency fall off normal for old age). The foam obviously held sweat that seeped into the buds/wiring and caused a short. Given I paid about $60, these are a good buy and therefore merit a star upgrade - 5* - now that they continue to deliver at a moderate price. Are they perfect? No. My B&W's sound a lot better (for about $3,000 more money).

Aug 17, 2013 update: One wire broke at connection to plug, lifespan 41 months.

I went back and read some reviews on this product and have a suggestion for anyone considering earbuds. Think about whether this is your primary transducer for listening, as opposed to high quality speakers, high quality earphones. These were high quality for me relative to listening while walking or exercising. They aren't a replacement for full range top speakers, and as I noted they aren't adequate for classical music or some jazz. A problem is the sampling rate and expecting high fidelity sound output from a compression algorithm. Not going to happen. So everyone buying multi-hundred dollar ear buds ... I hope you are listening to FLAC files or AIFF and not mpeg or AAC which do not adequately and accurately produce full range music. If you are curious, there are many articles explaining the frequency response shortcomings.

Falls out of ears

The sound quality is basic. My Bose were much better, but I heard these were good and stayed in the ear better. I still have problem with these staying in my ears with both attachments. Also, they say they have noise cancelling which it did but when running the ear cushions that cancelled out the surrounding noise rumbled in my ears with each step which was far worse than the outside noises. Nike has the best that wrap around my ears and I think I will be buying another pair of those.

The Good:
Fit is exceptional...if properly inserted, the earbuds stay put....period. I am a runner and like a nice, comfortable, snug fit that won't come out. On long runs these headphones are great forstaying pu!
I love that the cord is 2 pieces...I don't use the extension cord and clip my ipod shuffle to a safety pin on my shirt...works perfect! Headphones do block out everything and have a deep base and a very good sound overall.
The (not so) Bad:
Before these, I had the E2c from Shure and I have to say I liked th clear silicone earbud tips better for fit and sound quality. The SE's do have a much richer base, but I feel like the treble and midtones were truersounding in the E2c's. Also I've noticed that because the seal with your ear canal is SO good on these earbuds, you are more likely to hear sound resonating through your body (i.e. the muted pounding of your feet on the treadmill). This isn't all that annoying unless you listen to music at a very low volume or VERY mellow music while you exercise...and if you aren't using them for working out, you probably won't even notice.
Overall an excellent all purpose headphone with some of the best sound reproduction around in its price range!

I don't need to comment on the quality of the sound, which is unsurpassable. However, the cord is insanely long or insanely short, depending on whether you use the extender. Furthermore, the connection between the extender and the headphones is really bulky and makes it really difficult to use these earbuds while doing other things (working around the house or working out). I'm looking elsewhere for earbuds that are light with a reasonably length cord (say... less than 5 feet??)
