I am so pleased with this purchase! I’ve been considering this microphone for years and finally decided to go for it after reading up more on it. I’ve been singing and recording and was becoming frustrated when I noticed static/distortion during playback when I’d hit big, high notes and a just a lot of the warmth and nuances missing that I was certain I was doing. Tried this microphone for the first time last night and it picked up everything beautifully! My voice sounded just like I felt it and heard it sound while I was singing! And the mic I was using, which was a Pyle I purchased about 5 years ago, had some raving reviews comparing it to the likes of this mic. No way! Not even a little! The Shure SM58 is hands down unbelievably better!!!!! The price is great too. To me, it’s worth much more. LOVE it!!!

Picked them up for live vocals. Mics are excellent. They look nice, feel nice, and put out good sound. The best description for Shure SM58's is that they are solid all-around. They aren't mind-blowingly amazing at anything (except maybe durability?), but they are solid for just about everything. I'd say these mics are the industry standard. Can't go wrong with these.

My only advice is to make sure you get it from a reputable seller, because there are a lot of fake Shure mics floating around.

Iconic, Rugged, but MOST Importantly - They Just Sound Better!

Look, this is it. The 58 is THE microphone and has been since the 1950s. If you don’t know microphones, then the best research you can do it to go to YouTube and watch any live performance of any band or singer. Chances are, you’re going to see an SM58 (or the wireless version.). The thing is just downright iconic. The dynamic range is really something else. It’s not too bright. It’s not too dark. It captures the full range of sound.

BUT, they are also rugged as heck. You can drop them (I’m 6’ 4” and have dropped mine many times), you can spill liquid on them (sad to say that accidents do happen). They keep on tickin’. If there is a stong wind out, you’ll need a wind cover for it, but that’s the case with all mics.

SHURE tried to improve on it with the SM58-beta, but it’s just too bright. I only use the beta in certain situations. I own six SM58s and four SM57s (same mic guts, but the 57’s shape is designed for instruments instead of voices), and I love them.

Get this. You’ll never be sorry that you did.

Vocalist of 15+ years. Metal bands. Very hard to find a mic with good dynamic range that doesnt feed back like a banshee when playing loud and live. Comparing the 58 back to back with 3 others, it wins in all categories. Clarity, control, durability. It's a 58. It wins. You can throw it at your drummer's head and it will be fine.
As for the studio, use something nicer. Or don't. Whatever. Every vocalist should have one.

Very durable quality microphone that lasts virtually forever, even as it gets bumped around and reasonably abused, which is why it is THE standard for live sound -- the hammer that should be in every live-sound toolbox. There are microphones that sound better for specific uses, but the SM58 marks the point where cheaper microphones are generally junk, and better microphones cost more money (and probably still aren't as durable). Works well for vocals or as an instrument mic (same as the SM57 except for the windscreen, which does have a *small* impact on the pickup pattern).

Get the version *without* the on/off switch. The person running your soundboard will appreciate never having to deal with not being able to have vocals heard because the singer turned off the microphone, while they are at the soundboard trying to troubleshoot -- and the audience can appreciate that! Better performances come from microphones not having an on/off switch. ;-)

Is it the best sounding vocal mic? Nope. But it's perfectly fine unless you're singing opera or something with really exceptional dynamic range. And let's be honest here: is your voice really developed enough that a better mic will make you sound better? Mine's certainly not. There's a reason that probably 90% of touring musicians over the last few decades have used these, and it's not because they break easily and sound terrible.

It's suitable for studio recording (and can be used on instruments, too), live performance, and defending yourself from would-be muggers in the back alley behind the dive bar where your band just played.

Much improved sound quality! Crisp, clear vocal quality puts the others to shame. My favorite feature is the built in pop-filter that really works, especially when the crowd is roaring and I need to hold the mic close to my mouth! Highly recommended!

I did a lot of research before buying this mic. I needed a dynamic mic for both karaoke and home recording. I have a condenser mic but it is so sensitive that it picks up too much background noises like birds chirping or noisy neighbours. I decided to go for a good cardioid mic.
I tried several other brands but result was not good enough as they failed to reproduce a clean recording - either bass was vibrating or treble was screeching or too much explosion on 'p' sounds.
I received the SM58 yesterday and immediately tried to record some dry vocals using UM2 audio interface and Cubase DAW. The result was beyond expectations - no noise, no explosion on 'p' sounds, 's' sounds were natural and the recording exactly reproduced what was sung. Obviously the karaoke live performance testing was great as well. It has great proximity effect and in built pop filter. No need to do any extra setup for the mic.
Simply sing! I have become a big fan of Shure! SM58 is certainly considered as the industry standard for good reason. It is very well built and looks pretty durable. It is an asset and definitely worth the money.

This is a crystal clear review about the mic. I've been using it from last 2 years & what I observe that if you want to perform in front of people or on stage, concert or you want it for the commentary or podcast for your YouTube channel or for Sound-cloud then this Shure SM58 is the Best microphone. And don't worry about the built quality, it is the best mic in terms of quality out there.
But if you are a singer/rapper then the quality of your audio should be very accurate and clear. I'm not saying that there is not clear sound or any type of noise in Shure but it did't feel that much Standard. So, you should go for RODE NT1A which is double in price.
But you are on a budget of 12k then buy Shure SM58 with your close eyes but if you can raise your budget a little go for RODE NT 1A.

Excellent build quality, were my first thought upon opening the package with this one and secondly it comes with a sticker to tag up my computer with. So I am sold on the sticker alone haha. Nope it seems to do what it says on the tin. Works straight out of the box no phantom power needed. Very little feedback. I only began to notice some when running it through 4 tracks and a vocoder. I have not really barked at it yet, but the bass response is quite phenomenal actually when you get in close. So far I am happy with this purchase, If it still alive and kicking in a few years I will be supremely happy with it. Having previously bought a condenser mic and had it break on me. This feels solid if a little quite however it cuts out unwanted background noise from my computer, which is another reason I bought it. So far it does exactly what it says on the tin. If you have been looking elsewhere at stuff slightly cheaper,. I would stop here. I am hoping this will be worth every penny of that 100 quid in the long run with hassle free plug and play, it is a winner. I have a mic I am pretty sure I can take anywhere and it will be useful without having to worry.
