Great Sound, Awful Build

Great Sound, Awful Build
Look, these are the best closed-back headphones you are going to get in this price range. A lot of people compare the sound quality to Sennheiser HD 600, and I think these are as close as you'll get for closed-back.BUT! The materials and build quality are unacceptable. I have had these for less than a year and the hinge that everyone has talked about for years broke with gently treatment. After contacting Shure, they want me to go through the whole process of sending these in for repairs. They need to make the exact same set of headphones but with metal on the band. I don't know whether I would recommend buying these or not. Headphones should last for years, but the sound is really good on these....

Let me start off by saying I have had these headphones for around 2 years. They are great. After two years of daily use, they are still functioning perfectly, and I've never had to replace the cable or the ear pads. Most of my other headphones eventually broke after a few months which is why I decided to invest in a more expensive pair. Boy, did that ever pay off. If you've never used a pair of studio monitor headphones before, the first thing you'll notice when putting them on is how well they block out noise. They aren't active noise cancelling, but the ear padding is nice and thick and plastic body is heavy duty, so it's almost like putting on a pair of earmuffs. They have very low sound leakage, so even at high volume you won't disturb your roommate or family members. They are very well made, as I stated above I have been using mine daily with no problems whatsoever. It comes with an extra set of ear pads, and the cable is detachable. The cable appears to be a proprietary connector, so replacements would have to be ordered through Shure. It also comes with a soft pouch which the headphones fold up into. If I had to choose one word to describe the sound of these headphones, it would be...clear. After listening to these headphones it makes all the phones I've had before it sound dull and lifeless (most of them were under $50). Earbuds are laughable compared to this. This highs are crisp and clear, the mids are full and warm, and it has a nice strong low end. It isn't overly bass-ey like some headphones (cough cough beats by dre). Listening to super heavy bass tracks, it handles them nicely. It can produce sounds down to and below 30hz, at which point you just feel them vibrating against your skull. Overall they have a very balanced sound. These are amazing headphones and I would encourage anyone to pick up a pair. I have only two complaints regarding these phones (neither of which had anything to do with the headphones themselves). The first is that I have looked high and low and can't find a hardcase to fit these in. The only ones I could find that they fit in are well over $100. The second complain is that when having a high quality set of phones like these, you can really start to hear the difference between low quality and high quality mp3s. This drives me absolutely crazy because listening to low quality music really defeats the purpose of having nice headphones. Overall, I give these headphones 5 start. I would recommend to everyone.

I love these headphones! First of all, they are very comfortable and I can wear them for hours at a time without feeling uncomfortable. They also look very cool and match my setup, so I also love that about them. The sound is also very good. When listening to music with these, I can hear every single instrument which makes for a very pleasant listening experience. I also have been using them to monitor my Shure Mv7x to make sure it sounds good, and I can hear every little detail and make the necessary adjustments to make sure my mic sounds good when I record! Overall, these headphones are great and of high quality. I'm glad I purchased these instead of a some cheaper no name brand pair of headphones.

This is my first product review. I felt the need to chime in since I relied heavily on product reviews while deciding which direction to go with a couple recent headphone purchases. Also, I wanted to say what a great set of headphones the Shure 840's are. They are very well built and I find them extremely comfortable. I purchased a pair in May 2013 and have been very satisfied. I bought them for $169.99 on Amazon and thought I got a great value for my money. I saw today, they can be purchased $20 cheaper for $149.99. At this price, I would consider these headphones a remarkable value. I have found they work fine plugged into my MacBook Pro, but sound much better (louder, clearer, and improved sound when I run them thru my Audioengine D1 (DAC). I am picky when it comes to headphones and had sent back a pair of Audio Technica 500D because I felt it was a muffled sound. My other favorite headphones are the Sennheiser HD 598. Coupled with the Audioengine D1 both of these headphones sound superb, and offer distinct advantages to each other. Overall, I prefer the Sennheiser HD 598, hands down. But the Shure 840's offer everything I could have asked for at $169.99 in closed back headphone. I find myself using the Shure 840's 40% of the time, since they provide diversity to my listening experience. I gave both the Shure 840's and the Sennheiser HD 598 five star reviews. I listen to a lot of jazz artist like Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley. The Shure 840's gives me the sound of having a first row balcony seat while the Sennheiser HD 598's give's me the effect of being on stage. I would recommend both headphones, and think they are the best headphones at their respective price points. My other source of music are a set (two floor standing and center) B&W 703's with proper amp. I just wanted to throw that in there to show I take listening seriously and have not sacrificed cost for quality. The Sure 840's at $149.99 (or less) are a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran sonido

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones!

These are very good for monitoring your studio work. They are very comfortable and light. The ear pads fit nicely over the ears and greatly reduce the sounds around you, thus helping to eliminate any music feeding back into the microphone. This was a good purchase and suited my purposes for recording in studio. I would recommend them. Hopefully I will not have any issues with them, but if I do, I will contact Amazon and let them know. The were shipped to me in a soft envelope by Amazon, but fortunately, they are in a very well packaged box from Shure. The price was also great!

Initially, I might add, there was a cable missing in the first order, however, Amazon sent me another set of headphones and I returned the original order. Everything was good after that!
Thanks Amazon for making things right with this order!

5.0 out of 5 stars Difícil encontrar algo mejor en este rango de precio.
Reviewed in Mexico on August 17, 2021

No requieres nada esotérico.
