How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsVideo is the only shortfall for me
Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2014
I built this to integrate into my home theater setup. The build was easy with Windows 8.1 64bit. 4gb ram, ssd, external optical drive. Once no internal moving parts, silent operation.

The sound is good, though two channel. I'm ok with that in my setup.

The included drivers are necessary add the Windies ones were not adequate.

The video is a weak link, meaning the results are limited or the timing isn't recognized by my tv. 1080p is window boxed. I run 720p and it's fine except Windows complains the resolution is to low.

I also couldn't get the bios to boot off the external optical drive after initial install. It was frustrating, but I don't need to do it often. I added a small Logitech combo keyboard/touch pad and it works well.

The boot is ridiculously fast.

Not a home run, but a darn good silent machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect starter pc

This is my first barebones pc, this PC has exceeded my expectations, for 200 bucks, you get the PC itself, ac cord, psu, bracket for hard drive mount, bracket for odd mount, and a driver CD, which may also install bloatware. What I installed to my pc is 2gb of ram(4-8 gb is the supported amount, wd 160 gb hard drive, a odd, a 8gb flash drive(used with Windows ready boost), and windows 10.
Pros: Supports Windows 10, odd drive compatible, small, fanless, 24/7 operation, gigabit lan, WiFi bgn included, very good for games that run more on CPU, HDMI, VGA, display port, good design of case, and boots efi.
Cons: CPU heat is about 39˚c to 47˚c, does not come with vesa bracket or second hdd add ons, power brick, requires 1.35v for ram, one USB 3.0 port, bad location of WiFi antenna, and does not support legacy boot.
Overall, the cons really not a problem, it's an awesome pc, it would be perfect for a small sever, and it is a perfect start for a person like me to find parts for this PC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful value for a nettop.

I've been buying these for years (the last one being an XS35V2). This latest iteration has a fairly powerful processor for a nettop. The only issue I've had with this model is it requires a VGA dongle to run headless (I use it as a small Debian server). This could be BIOS related so a future update could fix this. Otherwise another solid effort from Shuttle.

5.0 out of 5 stars DS77U3 is a very nice, quiet, small form factor PC
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2018

Considering that you can simply toss in some 2400 speed memory and a NVMe M.2 card and you're up & running with quite a nice speed overall. If you want a fast, but lower cost drive, go with the Corsair MP300. Although 'only' 2 channel PCI, it still beats the top sata SSDs.

Be aware that some of the 4 channel NVMe drives will show up as undetected in the BIOS. But as long as you have the M.2 slot configured for PCIe mode and the boot type set to UEFI, windows can see the drive. (Strange, confusing, but that was my experience using BIOS 1.08, the latest at this time.)

Love the fanless form factor.

Awesome little barebones, works flawlessly. I install Linux on it and haven't looked back. Don't know what other owners issues are (maybe Windows?). It is fast, flexible and works great as a desktop computer. Although a dual core it is quick (2GB x 2 dual core). I would highly recommend this little computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just fun but do not under estimate what it can do!

I love this little thing. It works very well under Linux distros and Windows. With plenty of ports (even a displayport) it is a communicative little thing that is very easy on the power draw. You can run it all day cheaper than a light bulb. We mounted it to the back of its monitor so no foot print! With a SSD installed it is silent as only the CDROM makes noise when being operated. The internal WiFi is adequate but unless you have a strong signal to your AP I would recommend plugging in the LAN cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's also pretty small so it doesn't take up much room

I'm currently using this with a 4GB stick of DDR4 RAM and a 500GB HDD. I use it to run PFsense and it runs phenomenally. It uses Intel NICs so no issues with stability. Make sure to Update the BIOS then disable the serial ports in there before booting from USB to install PFsense. It's also pretty small so it doesn't take up much room.

So far i have no disappointment with the product. I installed Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS and all the drivers checks out. Never expect this unit to be so neat and quiet ( fanless) I bought this unit as a preliminary file server at home and the fanless design allows me to run this 24/7 with no issues

Installed linux and have it hooked up to my tv and speakers to listen to music, watch flix, play custom screensavers, automate tasks, etc with reliable open source software. Always on, stays cool, silent, great purchase.
