There were some editing issues that would make the story read better if addressed. Should the author ever decide to run an edit on the book one thing I would suggest is to not refer to main characters as the shy woman, the red headed woman, the private detective, the billionaire, etc. Use their names. The author set up the looks, personalities and careers of each person very well so it isn't necessary to repeat who they are and what color hair they have over and over. I thought it just got old. Despite the editing issues, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance. It didn't bog down. It moved at a good pace and the author did a good job getting you to care for her characters.
The author's writing style is candid and simple, which makes it easy to follow, and the banter among the characters helps the reader feel like they are among people they know. I was glad to see the originality in the characters, such as the shyness of Ellie, and the non-traditional appearance descriptions (like the bright red hair and lipstick of Cassie), which set the book apart. Each character truly has their own personality which is consistent throughout the book. I also love that each scene moves the story forward, and its action pulls you along!
This might hit home if you have a sister.
The basics are here in this break out book from new author, Molly Lovell, but the characters are not like any you've met in other romances, I dare to say. Boy meets girl, boy is a jerk, boy and girl clash while somehow managing to fall in love....and so it goes.
What I found delightful was Ellie, our main character. Such a real depth to her that I found her lack of confidence through the book impossible to become annoyed with. I actually found it rather charming. Without giving to much away, I've never read a character like Ellie. Despite her stand out qualities, she manages to snag the man...and it is a nod to the LOVE YOURSELF THE WAY YOU ARE movement, but not in the eye rolling cliche ways that you see everyday. Its beautifully different and stands out from any other that I've read before. I'm eager to see what Molly does in her next book.
If I had to pinpoint one thing about this book, it would be that the romance didn't suck me in the way some others have. I wasn't as drawn in and falling in love with him along with Ellie like I have in a few other books, but this book was great. Well written, amazingly well drawn out characters, and believable plot.
I really enjoyed the parts of the story about the company, and the family relationships. Edric’s brother had a great personality that added humor to the pages. I would have loved to have seen him more often.
Overall a sweet story of two people who are searching for love and acceptance whether they know it or not.
