Sicily: Culinary Crossroads is wonderful! I bought it as a surprise for my husband (who cooks) and gave it to him while we were on the plane to Sicily. He read it cover to cover. When he got to Sicily, he knew the history of the foods, the methods for preparing, stories, etc.

This is a perfect gift for a "foodie" who travels.

The pictures are amazing.

And yes, I got to enjoy the recipes when we returned home!

This is a lovely book with excellent recipes. The big disappointment is the original title was Cooking of Eastern Sicily, so it only covers three regions out of nine. Given that it is a partial exploration of Sicilian cooking, what is there is excellent.

This was given as a gift to a friend who is part Sicilian. Her feedback was that it was a beautiful and interesting book with not only recipes but cultural information about this unique area of Italy.

I purchased Sicily: Culinary Crossroads as much for what it could tell me about the culture of Sicily as for the recipes. I was not disappointed. And, the recipes I've tried (so far)are fairly easy and well worth making and eating.

As others have noted, this book is the real deal. The beginner a few recipes puzzling as in some cases, no quantities are given. Others will find the lack of food photographs (the book is filled with romantic shots of Sicily) annoying. However, once you get past these minor roadblock you'll find you have solid source book of traditional, highly regional Sicilian recipes that will challenge your ideas of what "Italian Food" can be. I do agree with one of the other reviewers as far as this not being a comprehensive overview of all the regions of Sicily - but it sure is a wonderful start.

Unfortunately, now that it's out of stock, the price has become ridiculous. However, it may still be available direct fron [...].
