Before playing this version I had always held Civ II to be the best version. It was challenging and engaging. Civ V was all of that plus the economic side of things is far more detailed. I like it that you cannot stack up units one on top of another. The game play is more realistic from that stand point. I also like how there are limited quantities of natural resources. You cannot simply build 50 tank units, you have to have enough steel and oil to do so. You cannot simply build a nuclear missile, you have to have uranium to do so. In order to obtain resources you have to trade and cajole other players or city states into providing it.

Usually game companies offer a new an improved game which is basically an easier version but with better graphics than the previous. This is not true for Civ V, its better in almost every way.

I am so impressed with this game. I've been a fan of the civilization series for over 12 years, and I was a little skeptical when I read about changes that were going to be made in Civ V. Now I can see why they were made!

After a very frustrating install process ( took me more than two hours because of problems with Steam downloading the game rather than using my disk,) I finally got a chance to try the game. The upgraded combat system is so much fun I found myself in constant war just wanting to strategize. Although all the other Civs thought I was a warmongering threat to the world, the complex diplomacy was very satisfying. On top of all this the game looks gorgeous!

I was planning to give the game a three or four because of the problems I had installing it, but I have to give it five stars. It's just so much fun!

This game pushed a video card harder then needed. Running on a NVidia GTX650...should be more than sufficient. Unfortunately I can only run in DX9. My PC is way above spec level for the game...Intel i5-3470K 3.4GHz with16Gb RAM running on a SSHD with Win7-64 Ultimate. Monitoring temp levels I see that the card is pushed up as high as 56C before it dies. Plenty of cooling in the case and no issues above 50C on any other program. Even drives the Intel chipset hard as well...got that to 58C. Usually crashed after about 15 min of gameplay if run in DX10/11 mode

Awesome fecking game... period! Civilization has been a game series that has been amazing since the start and keeps replicating that amazingness. Now with Civ VI out this is even better. While I do enjoy these games that aren't hardware dependent and having the actual CD copy in today's world Steam and similar platforms like EPIC and Blizz are making the old days of carrying CDs, DVDs, and USB filled with games pretty much obsolete to a point. This is said to a point because when things get rough... can still flip on a PC with no internet and pop in the DVD.

To start, I have played this game for hours on end sense it arrived. although this is my first civ game it is incredible. everyone is complaining about steam being used. honestly I find it to be a plus I like being able to collect achievements not only does steam give you access to achievement collection. you can also have steam backup your save files; so that when your hard drive inevitably fails you wont lose all progress. when civilization arrived it came in a British case style( seller specific) although this is only superficial for the actual game works exactly as expected. this is the first game I have found which allows the player to navigate politics with AI leaders and a combination of strategic air, land, and sea conflicts. finally, sense I got it I have played around 60 hours but there is so much variety when starting new game's that it should last for at least 120 hours.

I played Civs 1, 2 and 4 so much I could see them in my sleep. I would pass on this one, although admitting I didn't give it much of a shot. Hard to say why, it just wasn't what I was looking for, too much a departure from 1-2 and 4. Basically just a different and disinteresting game for me, and I wasn't really looking for something alot different than 1-2 and 4. Maybe a tip that things aren't right was that you were forced to install some on-line application called STEAM, I don't know if this is to spam you, spy on your use, shill other products or whether it's legit, but unfortunately it took me about half an hour to figure out how to uninstall it from my computer once I decided to trash this game. Their website seemed most disinterested in telling you how to uninstall it, another sure sign something is amiss. I don't think any game should force you to install a strange on-line application unless you plan to play on-line (and I didn't), it's too invasive and it's too fishy. For me this ends my twenty or so year love affair with Civ products, I cut them a break on Civ III but I will never trust them again, and I made the mistake of buying three CDs at once so I took a big hit. A waste of money, I would most definitely pass this one by.

This game will eat away your life. The price is really good, too. On Steam it was 30 dollars and I got it for 18 here. The only Con I have against this game, is how I sometimes don't want to play it because I don't feel like I have time. Literally, I have never had a session less than 2 hours. I gained 20 hours of that game in the first 3 days I had it.

Pros:
1. Amazing game, and with all the Civilizations you get with Game of the Year add quite a bit.
2. Unlimited hours of gameplay.
3. MODS! The Steam Workshop adds a bunch of fan made mods, and with the SDK, you can easily make your own!
Cons:
1. Doesn't include Brave New World or Gods and Kings
2. Very time consuming
