“A Side Hustle isn’t about making a few extra bucks selling lemonade to your neighbors. In my years investing on Shark Tank, I’ve seen firsthand how side hustles can take off and grow into some major profits. Whether you want to supplement your pay check, or jumpstart a full-fledged business, Guillebeau will show you how to get your hustle going in just 27 days flat.” - Daymond John, star of ABC’s Emmy Award winning business show Shark Tank
“The essential guide for anyone who wants to create more freedom, opportunity, and security by launching a profitable side hustle” On his popular podcast, Chris often says, “Inspiration is good, but inspiration combined with action is so much better,” and Side Hustle provides both. In fact, if you follow Chris's guidance, you can establish your own side hustle in just 5 week. What’s stopping you?” — Daniel H. Pink, bestselling author of Drive and To Sell is Human

He is living proof that this book works, and so are the many people who have followed his roadmap.”- Jon Acuff, New York Times Bestselling Author of Finish

I’ve heard this (okay, I’ve been that person) so many times. There is so much mythology and complexity around what it takes to go from idea to income. In the world of entrepreneurship, the lore has become, “you’ve gotta be all-in, all the time” if you want to succeed. Truth is, that’s a complete fiction. And, what if you don’t so much want to built the next mega-company, but instead would love to just do something you enjoy on the side that also happens to generate a nice bit of extra cash?
That’s where Chris Guillebeau’s Side Hustle steps in. The term “side hustle” has become all the rage these days, but for Guillebeau, it’s the way he’s lived his life and earned his income for more than a decade. As a friend and colleague, I’ve watched from the sidelines as he’s repeated the process many times, getting better and faster with each iteration (and often looked on in awe). And, I was excited to receive a copy to dive into and learn from.
In the book, Chris draws upon his deep well of experience starting different side hustles, then blends that knowledge with the experiences and case-studies of people from many walks of life to distill a step-by-step methodology based on what actually works in the real world. He offers a roadmap that takes you from idea to tested and implemented side hustle in a remarkably short period of time.
What I really love is the level of granular action-taking. Sure, there’s enough theory to explain why something is important, but the real value is that the book gives you something very specific to do every day that moves your quest forward. It’s these small daily steps that lead to big outcomes, and also stop you from becoming overwhelmed along the way.
If you’re looking for an exhaustive tome on entrepreneurship or a guide to quitting your job and going all in, this is not it. But, if you’re looking for streamlined, effective and actionable wisdom that’ll get you out of dreamer mode and into daily action mode, this book is the perfect place to start!
I found this book to be the best starting point I've seen for someone looking to start their own side hustle (I received an advance copy). Not only will it help you find the perfect idea (even if you don't have one), but then it provides clear, actionable and mostly non-intimidating steps to actually lay the foundation for your new business. The fact it's broken out as a day by day plan makes it very clear what you need to accomplish and in what order you need to do so (even if it ends up taking more than 27 days).
Overall Side Hustle is a great addition to his previous books. It's also the most useful and practical book yet for someone legitimately looking for a non-intimidating starting point into the world of entrepreneurship and small business.
Loaded with real-life examples, Chris takes you through the journey of coming up with an idea, determining if there is societal impact and profit in that idea, how to launch the idea, product, or service, how to make refinements where necessary and how to sustain the hustle long term. If you haven't heard of his accompanying "Side Hustle School" podcast and website, those are also great supplementals to the book as well, in case you need more ideas.
So, I am still in thinking mode about what my side hustle is going to be, but Chris advocates that instead of thinking, "action is so much better!" So, once I figure out my plan of execution, I'll be on that side hustle journey to hopefully increase my stream of income to have a more comfortable life.
Figure out what you love doing, what people will pay you for and step by step, as Chris outlines, you will get paid for a little side hustle.
This isn't a "6 weeks to multimillion freedom." This is a step by step process to get some freedom along the way.
