Product Description

SideSwipe revolutionizes mixing and virtually eliminates the need to stop your mixer and scrape the bowl to get all your ingredients mixed in. The ORIGINAL spatula mixer blade delivers better results because of its unique alternating silicone fins. The ultra-flexible fins' bi-directional scraping provides a more thoroughly-combined, fluffier end result while maintaining a safe wattage draw. And it mixes your recipes faster, too! SideSwipe is perfect for mixing most everything you use your stand mixer for - cakes, frosting, cookies with chips and nuts, mashed potatoes, creamed butter and much more! Don't be fooled by recent competition that doesn't mix as well or get ingredients from the bottom of the bowl! Although I think this is rather high in price, it does what it is supposed to do and I believe it is worth the money. I am purchasing another one for my daughter. The one complaint we have about the Kitchen Aid mixer is stopping to scrap down the bowl. With the bowl-lift this isn't very easy or quick to do because the beater is in the way. The SideSwipe makes the scrapping of the bowl unnecessary. It works great!

I'd initially learned about this item while visiting my mom in Florida. We had stumbled upon a little kitchen supply shop in town and they were carrying them; alas, they were out of the size I needed...thank goodness I found them on Amazon.com!

My assessment: I just finished making my "infamous" New Year's Eve clam dip and utilized the "Sideswipe" for the first time since I received it a few days ago. I can attest that this accessory does exactly what it's intended to do; it scrapes (gently!) the sides of the bowl so effectively, there's truly no need for you to do so, which will save you both time and energy! It offers easy clean up as well, making it an ideal Kitchenaid cook's companion.

I highly recommend this product; just be sure to measure your existing beater blade (height and width), so you are sure to order the right size for your specific Kitchenaid mixer.

Happy Cooking!

This functions well, but I bought both this and the Metro and really like the Metro better for two reasons. First, the Metro seems to clean the side of the bowl better (not much difference, but enough that it is noticeable) and Second, the Metro is easier to clean off excess batter. The tabs on the sides of the SideSwipe are a great place for lots of dough to cling. I need to use a small spatula or spoon to get the batter stuck between the tabs. Maybe not a big deal to most, but read on for an explanation

I need to offer an explanation in that I have limited use of my fingers due to nerve damage and was looking for something that would eliminate the less than perfect design of the KA metal blade. The need to grab another spoon to clean out from between the tabs can sometimes be difficult.

When making cookies that call for bits (chips, raisins, etc.) the Metro blade okay. However, when mixing large amounts of bits and chunks, this SideSwipe is actually better than the Metro because the bits seem to have an escape through the tabs, but most everything, I prefer the Metro.

I use both, but if I had to buy just one it would be the Metro.

I have retired the original aluminum blade (pain to clean by hand anyway) and rely on these aftermarket pieces.

i had all but stopped using my kitchen aid for anything but icings and whipped creams. i did not like having to stop drop and scrape down doughs and batters. i started using my handheld for cookies and cakes. the side swipe does a good job mixing the dough and scraping down the sides. its less messy and reduces the amount of time needed.

I just tried out this beater today on a 16th anniversary bundt pan recipe from Nordicware. I absolutely did not have to scrape the beater at all except that the generous cake proportions resulted in a bit of batter ingrediants a bit above the silicone fans, and a bit of unicorporated ingredients near the top of the beater - not much. I think this is inevitable. I would give this a 5 star rating except for one small thing. With the protruding fins and the circular center, I found it more troublesome to scrap off the beater of excess batter when filling the cake pan. I could not use my spatula. I ended up using my finger (I did wash first :-)). I think the exra effort was worth it compared to the great job it did on scraping the majority of the bowl. I have seen there is another brand of blade where the silicone is continuous, and I have also seen concern from a baker that the silicone wings would put extra stress on the mixer. That is why I chose this blade with fins over the other.

Recently, my three-year-old Beater Blade, which has had a lot of use, cracked at the head while mixing a relatively low-density dough. Annoyed, I went online to purchase a new one and discovered the SideSwipe. It looked cool and I liked the idea that it wasn't completely plastic but that the head was reinforced with metal. I also noted from reviews of the Beater Blade that I wasn't the first to have experienced the problem I had with the beater breaking at the head. So I decided to give the SideSwipe a try.

I make more than 100 dozen cookies a year, so after three years of using the Beater Blade, going back to the original equipment KitchenAid beater was not an option because I had been spoiled by the Beater Blade. I am sold on the concept that these blades use; their mixing capabilities are superior to those of the original blade, and they do indeed save you from having to stop the mixer regularly to scrape down the bowl.

When I received the SideSwipe, the packaging (clamshell) was so tight and hard to open that I cut myself on the plastic in the process of opening it. A minor complaint, but the packaging could be improved upon. The price of the SideSwipe is also higher than the Beater Blade.

I have used the SideSwipe multiple times now, and have found it similar in function to the Beater Blade; but there are a couple of differences between the two that you will want to know about if you are considering replacing your Beater Blade with a SideSwipe:
1) The silicone fins tend to hold heavy batters in them, which makes for no small amount of work to get the dough out of them before cleaning. In the dishwasher, traces of batter were left on the fins - I never had this issue with the Beater Blade.
