We met both Macey and Jack in Blindsided through their best friends Leah and Corey. The attraction between Macey and Jack in Blindsided was obvious but watching it come to life in Sidelined was nothing short of perfect! We are reminded of the hurt Macey has suffered after learning her long-time boyfriend cheated on her with her cousin, and fathered a child as a result of that betrayal. It goes without saying that Macey is a little bitter and very jaded. As the story unfolds we find that Jack himself has faced a similar betrayal. Together they are perfect if only they could each let go of the past.
I absolutely loved watching Macey & Jack grow as individuals and together. I was rooting for them the entire time and hoping that as they recognized what was obvious to everyone else they would only become more passionate. The addition of family dynamics (read: drama) completed each of their stories. Facing the ghosts of their past and accepting those moments as awful as they were, helped them each find each other became obvious to the reader long before it was realized by either Macey or Jack. I loved that!
Emma Hart does not disappoint. The sex is off the charts. The feelings each word evokes is sizzling. I have already recommended this book to 5 people -- it's been 8 hours since I finished. I don't think you need to read Blindsided to read Sidelined, it only enhances the experience but not necessary.
Macey is a strong and intelligent woman. She's been hurt and betrayed terribly and so now she does her best to not let too many people too close. Her family is going through alot of things. She loved her ex-boyfriend Mitch and him coming back into her life just confuses her. She makes things sometimes way too complicated. She worries so much about making a decision and it being the wrong one.
Jack is a great football player and he's a wonderful son. He loves his mother and bought her a house and moved her away from Rhode Island, where they are from. He cares about people and he will do anything for those he cares about. He's a really great guy but he doesn't always understand why he does things.
Definitely worth reading and I'm looking forward to the next book with Reid.
I love that they are still guarded even with each other and it isn't the typical response to one another that we see in so many books - the "oh I can't be myself around anyone else but you, you I can" type. Know what I mean? Sidelined was one of those stories that showed the struggles of two people who truly were broken and terrified of putting their heart on the line.
Macey and Jack's banter together, but also with their friends and family had me laughing out loud and their attraction towards each other had me fanning myself.
I loved everything about Sidelined - the characters, the writing, just all of it. You don't have to read Blindsided first but I do recommend it. If nothing else, because it, too, was pretty dang awesome.
I will say this - this book is one big love triangle, and I hated it. I was screaming at Macy the entire time, wanting to smack her upside her head to make her see who she really needed in her life. But that's what makes a good book, right? When you are yelling at character in your head because you become so invested in them. I read this book all in one day, when I really should have been writing a paper for school. This book made me forget about all the other crap I need to do and I was able to escape for a few hours.
Emma has a 3rd book coming out in April in this series that focuses on Reid, and I can't wait. From the glimpses we have seen of him from the first 2 books, I have a feeling he will be right up there with Corey and Jack for my newest book boyfriend. This was another great book by Emma, and I'm sure the next will be even better. If you enjoy sassy characters and hot alpha-men, then you need to read the By His Game series.

I love these two, I could read chapter after chapter. She confused me but I kinda got the hesitation. That was the type of action that could truly destroy a good loving person. Read morePublished 2 months ago by LNP
Funny as heck I love all the good bantering back and forth. I did have a hard time with how Macey could let a decision be made that would be completely easy. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Susan
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was difficult to finish. The female lead, Macey, was over the top and rather annoying. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Melissa
The writing! No it's not the writing, it's the dialogue. It's so hard to get through. Like none of the characters took grammar in elementary school. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Amanda M. Nemec
