Jack and Macey agree to have a relationship that is based purely on sex, sex by Macey's rules. Jack is not used to following someone else's lead on or off the field and he only has so much patience when it comes to waiting for Macey to call. As things begin to heat up as more than beneath the sheets with Jack and Macey, the unthinkable happens to rock Macey's world. The return of Mitch and he wants her back; telling her that everything that happened to them a year ago was a mistake.
Macey becomes confused; unsure of who she should give her heart to; Jack who has already been burying himself in there one night and gesture at a time or Mitch who is comfortable, who she already knows everything about. While Mitch continues to try to wear Macey down and convince her to forgive him; Jack decides the best way to keep Macey in his life is to step back and let her date Mitch. But is that the right choice?
As Jack begins to realize that he wants Macey for more then sex; Macey becomes so torn with the decision that she has to make; knowing that there is a chance that she will always wonder "what if" if the choice she makes is the wrong one. When she finally decides who she wants to be with, she makes dates with both guys on the same night at restaurants across the street from each other so that they can see who she chooses to be with. Will it be the ever sexy football star Jack? Or will she choose the man she thought she loved at one point, Mitch. You will have to read to find out.
I loved how Emma Hart brought in the characters of Corey and Leah as introgale parts of the story; allowing the reader to see the progression of their relationship past the ending of their book Blindsided. I loved how fiercely protective the girls are of Macey after everything she had been through and that no matter what was going on in their lives they dropped everything for each other.
Jack is a football superstar, starting running back for the LA Vipers. This man is the total package and he knows what he wants. How anyone could do him wrong is beyond me. But it happened, Lucy his ex girlfriend is caught cheating on him on one of the biggest days of his life. The day he was drafted for the LA Vipers. He walked in with a smile on his face and a ring in his pocket, only to walk out with a shattered heart. From that point on he has guarded his heart and refused to start a lasting relationship with anyone. 3 years down the line. Life is good, he has women when he wants them, the team is looking good this season, everything is going exactly how it should be.
Macey is a woman on the rise. But she has been wronged too. Mitch her now ex boyfriend, was caught red handed, with his hand in someone else's cookie jar. But no not just anyone's, no he was caught cheating with Macey cousin. The only reason he even admitted it to her was because cousin got knocked up with his baby. And now that fact gets thrown in her face all the time by her Aunt who sends her photos of the baby. Needless to say Macey was broken by this event, and has no desire to be in a relationship.
When Jack presents Macey with the opportunity be not so friends with benefits on a regular basis, she is very hesitant at first. But Jacks persistence and his magic stick quickly change her mind. Things are going good, with there arrangement. Dinner, Sex and Bacon. What else could you need?
Here comes Mitch
Mitch comes waltzing back into Macey's life, announcing that after a paternity test, he found out he's not the father. And he is ready to start backup where they left off. HERE IS WHERE I GET MAD AT MACEY. At first she ignores him. and is shattered again because of him. Jack is there for her at every step. To hold her and bring her warm cookie dough. Jack does everything right. As I said "The total package". Macey starts a back and forth that drives me crazy. And I want to reach through the pages of my kindle and slap some sense into her.
Jack never gives up, but Macey..........
