In the beginning you don't really know a lot about Kate, it's mostly about her husband Tom who is a police detective. In the beginning the book jumps from today to 1 year ago when Thomas is killed by evil that runs so deep in the story Kate can't trust anyone around her. She is betrayed by people close to her. She can trust no one.
I was very lucky to get this book free. I found a new author to follow and find more by him to read. You must pick up this book. It's a 3 am and I can't put it down kind of book. It isn't very often you find "that book" that you don't want it to end, that pulls you in so deep you feel as if the characters are people you know and love. This book is just like that!
This novel pushes the harder questions in life to the front, seeking not to answer them but to force its reader to think. Written with the tenderness of someone who has loved and lost, and the plot complexity of a Dean Koontz thriller - the ending will leave you with the most painful question of all - "What if?"
Second there was several passing mentions of Kate's faith and God but mostly very negative and conflicted. I get that at times people go through extreme doubts about God but to me the author was way over the top and it didn't get really resolved in any meaningful way.
The only people shown of faith was a pastor and his wife who were severely castigate in a profane way.
Last there were a few times where the continuity of the story got lost. And one editorial mistake about the car that Kate mistakenly called Pita but was her friend's Maurice's car (Just in case the author reads these reviews).
This book had potential but was too gritty for me.
