Seems moderate to good. No issues so far.
Others have said that the supplied latch was of questionable quality, but it seems pretty standard, so it could definitely be substituted for another latch. (Standard square hole, like you'd typically find on a door knob.)
Instructions for physical installation were honestly very good, easy to understand even if you've not ever installed a doorknob before. I am happy to say they did a good job with these!
Looks nice, no issues there. Honestly surprised at how good it looks for the price, expected it to look cheaper when installed, but it doesn't.
Keypad illumination is visible at all times of day or night, though my test installation was under my door leading to a covered porch. But honestly, unless it was in absolutely direct sunlight (difficult to achieve if the user was standing in front of it to use it), it should be visible.
I do kind of hate how smudgy (think touchscreen smudge) that the keypad area gets, and you can sort of notice it in daylight... Sorta would have preferred physical buttons.
Finger print reader is 'meh'. Doesn't work every time, but that's to be expected.
Codes (once programmed) work fine all but one time.**
Wireless key tags work fine (once programmed, the lock does not come with these key tags preprogrammed, you have to add them via the App).
Bluetooth functions work fine if you're within ~5 feet of the lock. Otherwise I found them spotty.
**I did have one instance where, after being not home all day for ~12 hours, the lock failed to 'wake up' when I tapped on the keypad. I did not try very many times / for very long before pulling out the wireless key tag from my pocket, and holding it to the lock, upon which time the lock did appear to 'wake up' and unlock. I have yet to replicate this issue, but am a bit concerned as to if it would have been possible to wake the lock without the key tag, had I not had it in my pocket!
Nearly flawless, honestly, except for when I managed to generate enough EM interference to affect the gateway's communication with the lock's BLE transmitter. Then it failed to 'get the lock status'.
I am a bit confused, though, why I cannot use the 'unlock' feature in the App via the gateway, and actually have to be within range of the lock with my phone's Bluetooth turned on. :/ Weird. I would like this changed, as it seems like a simple feature addition, and silly no to have a 'remote buzz in' type feature on an internet-connected lock, in the age of doorbell cameras, etc. :/
"No Connection" operation:
Fine, but this lock CANNOT be reprogrammed locally without an internet connection to the phone you're using to program it. See more details in the next section. Sifely, /what the absolute $*%#/?
Otherwise, the lock does store the credentials locally and such, so it can unlock the door when presented with a code or wireless keytag, despite no connection / Bluetooth / WiFi / etc. being present.
This is honestly where my impression of Sifely and their product falls through the floor. This product is not a 'Bluetooth programmable lock with cloud features', this is a 'Sifely-cloud-server controlled door lock'. The application (when running) literally appears to be a Bluetooth-to-network gateway for the lock, and a web (browser like) interface to tell Sifely's servers what to program the lock. The app (even after initial setup) CANNOT work without a data connection.
Aside from the obvious issues of areas with spotty cellphone reception, etc.; this raises SERIOUS privacy concerns for anyone intending to use this lock in a 'local only' capacity. Sifely's servers WILL know your PIN codes, the wireless keytag ID codes, etc.; there's just no option for them /not/ to, as it appears (from my testing so far) that EVERYTHING goes through their servers, even if you're using your phone's Bluetooth to program the lock!
I do hope Sifely reads these reviews.
All it would take for this to be a 5 star review was actually making offline programming of this lock feasible, so that no data /has to/ be transmitted to Sifely's servers if the user doesn't want it to be.
I know this is a 'smart lock' product. But 'smart' doesn't have to mean 'no privacy or security'. Please, Sifely, fix your software. Fix the issue that for some reason, you have your servers 'middle man' everything. :(
There's a lot to like about this lock. I spent many hours searching for a good lock for my vacation rental until I came across this brand. I love the price, durability, and overall design, not to mention the option of lifetime remote wifi access with a one-time purchase of the wifi gateway (no ongoing subscription fees like many other brands). I was prepared to leave a 5-star review until I discovered one significant issue.
My primary issue is the mandatory security feature which places the lock in lockout mode for 5 minutes, during which time all codes or fingerprints are disabled. The only way to override it is with a physical key (which you may or may not have easy access to) or by logging into the app on your phone and unlocking it remotely. This is a great feature to offer as an option, but it really needs to be optional for homeowners to enable or disable at their own discretion.
In my case, I operate an Airbnb rental property that's regularly rented by groups with young children, and they often hang out on our large front porch. All it takes is one child to discover the fingerprint sensor on the door handle and push it 5 times for the whole group to be locked out of the home for 5 minutes. This is obnoxious for our guests and doesn't reflect well on us as hosts. At a bare minimum, there ought to be an option for us to disable the fingerprint sensor on the handle, but that doesn't appear to be an option either.
I will also point out that this mandatory security feature presents a significant liability issue for Sifely and for landlords who use their locks. It's not at all difficult to imagine a scenario in which an intruder enters an incorrect code 5 times, the occupant of the home hears a noise and steps outside to investigate, locks himself out of his own home, and is then assaulted and robbed by the intruder because he can't get back inside fast enough.
All it would take for Sifely to get my review changed to 5-stars is for them to roll out a software update, making the security function optional.
One other con is that there's no way to manually lock the door from the inside. To manually lock the door you have to open the door and long-press the # key on the outside. Not a big deal and wouldn't affect my star rating by itself, but is a feature that would certainly be a welcome addition on future models.
