Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | A Lens
The first and fastest of its kind
Truly a revolutionary product, the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM is the first wide-angle to standard zoom lens to achieve a large aperture of 1.8. Designed specifically for APS-C sized sensors, the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 translates to 27mm-52.5mm on 35mm camera. Tapping into Sigma’s long history of lens innovations, the 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM incorporates a wide glass molded aspherical lens with Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass to compensate for aberrations and curvature at the widest angle. Internal focusing and zooming allows for more usability and functionality. The 18-35mm is ideal for landscapes, portraits, still life, snap shots, casual, and close-ups and the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures smooth, fast and accurate autofocusing. The use of Thermally Composite Material (TSC) reduces size and weight but increases the lens durability. Its new Global Vision design works with its compatibility with the Sigma USB dock for further customization. A 9 blade rounded diaphragm also creates beautiful background blur. The Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM is a new benchmark in photographic history and a must have for every camera bag.
USB Dock Compatibility
Sigma has developed special software (SIGMA Optimization Pro) that can update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus.

I own a Canon 24-105, 70-200, a Zeiss 50mm Makro, Sigma 30mm, previously owned a Canon 24-70, Tamron 24-70, and Tokina 11-17.
This lens is amazing, built rock solid. Sharp as a prime, and wide enough that it doesn't look super distorted like my Tokina did when filming indoors.
The zoom and focus ring are buttery smooth, just like my Zeiss prime.
It works fantastic on my 550D as well.
If you shoot video - this lens is honestly a must have. I do like my Zeiss more, as it is an amazing lens, but I use this one 10x as much due to the focal length.
I wish it had IS - but hey, can't have everything.
The lens if very sharp wide open, very little to almost not noticeable CA and vignette. The build quality is very solid, the lens has some weight to it, not to mention it's solid focus along with comfortably dampened zoom and focus rings.
I bought this for my Canon 650D which pushes this camera to it's limits! I look forward to more shots with this amazing lens!
Image quality is astonishing. Bokeh is great.
Cons of using with mc-11 on sony- it keeps hunting for the right focus point and around 70% accurate at Night. Daytime has much better performance. For video work the lens is very noisy so i have a separate audio recording device.
I can only wish that its zoom length is much further, has less weight, has snappier focus and has IS. but for its current price, im happy with it and this definitely a keeper
The lens is verrrrry sharp even wide open at 1.2 I was shocked! It doesn't have IS but that doesn't effect me because I use a glidecam or tripod, you'll only see a little shake while your filming hand held. It's also around 2 pounds in weight for those wondering.
I purchased this for many reasons after countless hours of doing my research. Besides other people praising it.. This is also why I purchased:
- Very sharp lens. I read that it is basically a few primes built into one lens. I'd have to agree as it looks great no matter what.
- I could go to 1.2 with an adapter and that could help a ton in low light situations.
- It has much more DOF compared to the panasonic 12-35 lens and can go to 1.2 instead of 2.8.
- I needed help with the low light issue and the Panasonic 12-35 isn't good for low light while this can help me make up for ISO.
- Panasonics 12-35 mark II is apparently coming out with the GH5 so I'll wait to see if it's worth the buy later.
- Sigma Art lenses have always been worth the money. I've never met someone who has something bad to say about them.
I shot an interview this morning for a local gym and had this on my GH4 the entire time. I'll Post a screenshot of the video (ungraded) for you to see.
the lens is able to focus very fast and with the HSM you can't hear a thing. while you can still hear the motor if everything is completely silent, if there is any background noise going on you won't hear a thing.
Amazing for shooting video. the super quiet focusing motor means you won't hear the lens moving to gain focus while filming. Who wants to hear the focus motor running instead of the people in the shot while filming a scene, no worries with this lens.
Fantastic for those low light shots where you still need a fast shutter.
keep in mind this is not a small light lens. On the end of your camera this will add some size and weight if you are not used to shooting with lens of this size. It has replaced every prime in my kit between these focal lengths.
There is a reason this lens is sold out everywhere. don't hesitate to buy this lens if it becomes available to you or just put your name on the waiting list.
