Moving Mirrorless Forward
Redesigned with a metal exterior under the Art category, this high-performance standard lens is designed exclusively for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and has the equivalent angle of view as a 60mm lens (35mm equivalent focal length) on the Micro Four Thirds systems and 45mm (35mm equivalent focal length) on the E-mount system. Two glass mold aspherical lenses, including a double-sided aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for all types of aberration. The inner focusing system corrects the fluctuation of aberration to maintain image quality regardless of the focal distance. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting as well as provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture. The superior telecentric optical design improves the image quality throughout the frame. The optical design also allows the lens to be compact and lightweight. This lens benefits from a newly developed linear AF motor, which moves the lens elements directly without the need for gears or the drive of other mechanical parts. This system ensures accurate and quiet autofocusing, making the lens suitable for video recording as well as still photos. The lens features a rounded 7-blade diaphragm creating an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. This Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN has a minimum focusing distance of 30cm/11.8in and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8.1, and comes in either a silver or black finish.

30mm f2.8 DN SE
Top customer reviews
Doesn't weight much and is compact. The lens is very sharp starting from f/2.8. By F/4 it is super sharp, so much so that I've set mine to f/4 and never change it when using it during the day. If you want greater subject/background separation, then use f/2.8, while not as sharp you will be happy about the results, it's already much sharper than any kit-lens. Going to f/5.6 yields no benefit in sharpness and by f/8 it starts getting softer.
If you want to use f/2.8, f/4 or f/5.6, this Sigma will make you happy. I'm adding a couple pictures: my dog at f/2.8 and a wine glass at the same aperture at night with heavy bokeh (muddiness of the picture is due to post-process noise reduction, as my 5N is old and created lots of noise in this hand-held picture. A newer mirrorless would yield much better results on this Sigma.
If you are thinking about getting it. Stop thinking and do it!
I battled whether to get this or the Sony 50mm 1.8. And I'm glad I went with the sigma as it serves me more purposes. I used this lens on a Sony A6000. This is my first interchangeable camera and I couldn't have made a better choice of a fixed lens. Affordable, Sharp, and Fast Auto Focus! The F 2.8 still gives nice depth of field and gives a beautiful bokeh in portraits! I like the 30mm vs the 50mm because I like to do in home family photography, but it also works great when I'm on a hike in the mountains because it's a wide angle. I'm not here to get detailed in the sharpness or soft corners and blah blah. I will be switching to the new sigma 35mm f1.4. But only because I can't resist that 1.4. Here are some images I took with this lens on my A6000.
The linear motor focusing mechanism does have one position where it won't start up properly without a bit of a rotation, but you'll be hard-pressed to find this position very easily. And shooting raw does leave you with a bit of barrel distortion on the edges of the image... but I shoot JPEG. For a great lens at this price point, there has to be some drawback. I guess the slight barrel distortion (corrected in software for JPEG only) is its only drawback.
