Moving Mirrorless Forward
Redesigned with a metal exterior under the Art category, this high-performance standard lens is designed exclusively for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras and has the equivalent angle of view as a 60mm lens (35mm equivalent focal length) on the Micro Four Thirds systems and 45mm (35mm equivalent focal length) on the E-mount system. Two glass mold aspherical lenses, including a double-sided aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for all types of aberration. The inner focusing system corrects the fluctuation of aberration to maintain image quality regardless of the focal distance. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting as well as provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture. The superior telecentric optical design improves the image quality throughout the frame. The optical design also allows the lens to be compact and lightweight. This lens benefits from a newly developed linear AF motor, which moves the lens elements directly without the need for gears or the drive of other mechanical parts. This system ensures accurate and quiet autofocusing, making the lens suitable for video recording as well as still photos. The lens features a rounded 7-blade diaphragm creating an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. This Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN has a minimum focusing distance of 30cm/11.8in and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8.1, and comes in either a silver or black finish.

SIGMA 30MM LENS SONY F.28 DN FOR EMOUNT BLK
Top customer reviews
Doesn't weight much and is compact. The lens is very sharp starting from f/2.8. By F/4 it is super sharp, so much so that I've set mine to f/4 and never change it when using it during the day. If you want greater subject/background separation, then use f/2.8, while not as sharp you will be happy about the results, it's already much sharper than any kit-lens. Going to f/5.6 yields no benefit in sharpness and by f/8 it starts getting softer.
If you want to use f/2.8, f/4 or f/5.6, this Sigma will make you happy. I'm adding a couple pictures: my dog at f/2.8 and a wine glass at the same aperture at night with heavy bokeh (muddiness of the picture is due to post-process noise reduction, as my 5N is old and created lots of noise in this hand-held picture. A newer mirrorless would yield much better results on this Sigma.
The linear motor focusing mechanism does have one position where it won't start up properly without a bit of a rotation, but you'll be hard-pressed to find this position very easily. And shooting raw does leave you with a bit of barrel distortion on the edges of the image... but I shoot JPEG. For a great lens at this price point, there has to be some drawback. I guess the slight barrel distortion (corrected in software for JPEG only) is its only drawback.
This lens is a must-have for every Sony E-Mount camera owner (and arguably for every m43 owner too, although they do have several more choices, I believe). It's extremely sharp, and even though it's not the fastest out there it still can work well in low light conditions (perhaps using a small tripod when you wanna keep your ISO under a certain point) and produce pretty decent bokeh. The autofocus mecanism is magnet-based, and it rattles a bit when the camera is not on. It's also not as silent as the 16-50 kit lens when recording video with continuous AF, but otherwise it works just as well. Also, manual focus works well and it's precise, even though the shiny metal focus ring takes some time getting used to.
It's been a month since I'm using this lens, I already took it on vacation, I took really good pictures with it and I barely used the other ones!
