35mm F1.4 DG HSM | A
Our True Flagship
The Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM is a state of the art lens designed for full frame cameras but can also be used with APS-C sensors as well. The first addition to the Art category in Sigma’s Global Vision, the 35mm 1.4 DG HSM includes new features based around a unique lens concept and design. The 35mm is a staple focal length in the world of photography, and paired with Sigma technology, this lens can take artistic expression to the next level. The lens is equipped with technology including a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), floating internal focusing system, SLD and FLD Glass elements. The HSM ensures quiet, high speed, accurate autofocusing while the floating focusing system allows for superior optical performance with subjects at a closer shooting distance. The SLD glass elements along with the FLD glass elements, which are equal to fluorite, help correct both axial and chromatic aberration. The large 1.4 aperture make it ideal in low light and the lens is compatible with the Sigma USB dock and Optimization Pro software to adjust and fine tune focusing parameters. The Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG HSM is a must have for any camera bag.

35MM F1.4 DG HSM (Sony)
Top customer reviews
But, after receiving the Sigma 35mm and doing some micro adjustments, I realized that this lens FAR surpasses any Canon lens I own. It is SHARP. Holy crap it's sharp. I've used a lot of different lenses and this lens produces the sharpest and most visually pleasing portraits.
I tend to shoot at f/2 for portraits with this lens, but even when I open it up more, it's still super sharp.
If you're on the line about buying a Sigma over a Canon, don't be. Definitely buy this lens right now. From now on, I will be looking at Sigma ART lenses before I even think about buying another L series lens. Super happy with this purchase.
I immediately ordered this bad boy and as soon as it arrived, I slapped it onto my D810 and BOOM! Amazing photos. The color. The contrast. The BOKEH. OMG. I've been missing out for so long. This lens is by far the best investment in photography I have ever made. The nicest, most solid piece of metal and glass you will ever purchase.
If any fan-boi snob comes up to you, calling you a peasant for purchasing 3rd party glass, don't mind him. Because he's a fool.
This lens is truly a work of "ART."
1) Excellent rendering of details and very high resolution, like every Sigma Art lens, with very good micro-contrast as well. Excellent match for high resolution sensors.
2) Still a superb value, competitive with CanNikon branded glass for 30 to 50% less money.
3) Unquestionably the best option at this focal length in Sony Alpha mount – leagues better than the aging Sony 35 1.4 G.
4) Good control over CA (but easily corrected in post).
5) Modest vignetting and minimal barrel distortion (issues rendered more peripheral by availability of excellent postprocessing).
6) Excellent USB dock option for dialing in MFA - can MFA at four discrete focal distances.
7) Great build quality and smooth MF operation - lens just exudes quality.
1) Weight – relatively heavy for a 35mm prime, and a lot heavier for example than the Sony 1.4 G.
2) Sometimes a bit funky autofocus particularly in low light on Sony A99II.
When I use the center AF point between F1.4 ~ F2.8, pictures are almost always out of focus. If I change the AF point to the one right above (or right below) the center point, pictures are tack sharp. Many Canon 70D users have reported similar problem with various fast lenses. I just took my camera into a Canon service center. They will check the camera, but they wouldn't take my Sigma lens in to check the combination. I will update this review once I get it back from them. This only happens in viewfinder mode. Live view (using LCD) shooting has no such problem.
No knock on this lens as I'm giving 5 stars to this fabulous lens. Just want people who are considering the Sigma 35mm+Canon 70D combination to be aware of this "minor" annoying compatibility issue. I said "minor" because at F1.4, I almost never use the center AF point anyway. Focusing with center point then recomposing at F1.4 mostly will throw the pictures out of focus (at least with my skill level). When used wide open, I shoot mostly my kids indoor and focus on one of their eyes, and that is almost never at the center of the viewfinder anyway.
