The UNI-T UT81B is the scopemeter of choice for use by class members in electrofishing classes taught by me and by others. A strong point is the ability to measure up to 1000 volts. I would prefer a scope with cursors and with ability to move the trace vertically once on hold, but this meter is quite useful for measuring pulsed direct current peak voltages. It is simple to operate and requires little instruction for first time users. The duty cycle reading appears accurate. The meter works well for the low frequency pulses used for fishing. I have a Fluke scopemeter when more accuracy is needed, but the UNI-T performs well in our classes, and its screen is more legible in bright sunlight.

I agree, it is a good product .... my only problem, so far, is that the power adapter furnished with the package was 240VAC to 6VDC (I live in the USA, 120VAC is our voltage). This adapter has a custom tip, not available anywhere. The Adapter output is rated at 6VDC, 450mA, 2.7VA ....Interestingly the no load voltage output of the adapter is 10.1VDC , assume it is unregulated, (Moving the custom tip to a standard 6VDC , regulated power adapter may not be an option.).... The distributor apologized, they were unable to get the right power adapter ....I purchased a step-up transformer as a temp. Solution (I am being reimbursed by the distributor.). I've written UNI-Temp.com a couple of emails, no response

The meter is a great piece of equipment when you get one that works. In my experience, (and I have bought 4 of these for use in my field of work) 1 out of 2 will work out of the box. They can be exchanged or returned with no hassel, and they are an exceptional value when they work for the price point. The only draw back is returning them until you find a keeper. Once you do, you will be glad you went through the trouble!
