“Thriller Award finalist Elliot’s well-paced sequel to The Last Sister opens at the home of 52-year-old Reuben Braswell, a devotee of conspiracy theories, who’s lying dead in his bathtub…The twist ending will catch most readers by surprise…[and] fans will look forward to seeing characters from the author’s other series take the lead in future installments.” —Publishers Weekly

The first book I read by Kendra Elliot was Vanished. I’ve now read every one. The reason I’m so enthralled is, as exciting and suspenseful as they may be, you care so much about the characters. You turn every page hoping they will find happiness and joy. So many of the people you’ve come to know and love keep appearing. Two of the characters in this book, Callahan and McLane were in my first Kendra Elliot book. I was happy to meet them again. They are like old friends.
I can’t wait for the next Kendra Elliot book.
*I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This second Columbia River installment combines familiar characters from other series into a suspenseful thriller that leverages the author's engaging storytelling skills into a creative and fast-paced reading adventure with so many surprises and twists! Wow!
Although a good standalone read, Kendra Elliot fans will enjoy how this storyline adds more to the author's other police procedural novels and characters. Ava and Mason are back to solve more crimes and murders, this novel takes them both to their individual limits. Ugh!
Tensions grow with too many victims and more suspects, meaning you'll want to read this in one sitting if possible. Unbelievable events propel believable characters into a neverending succession of tragedies and threats.
Especially liked this dialogue-driven format with chapters that seemed to zoom past in a blur until a series of unexpected climaxes. A most satisfying reading experience, one I enjoyed even more with Audible's well done narration supplement.
I was not disappointed! A fun escape read! Just preordered the next installment.

Although this is the second book in the new Columbia River series FBI Special Agent Zander Wells is more of a peripheral character once again, working alongside Ava as they join the investigation into the information her fiancee, Mason found.
Having enjoyed the first book in this new series I was looking forward to the second and it was even better than I'd hoped. Although it's been 4 years since the final Callahan and McLane book only a few months have passed in their story and it was easy to slip back into their lives as if they had never been away. Add an appearance by Mercy Kilpatrick and for fans of Kendra Elliot it's like all our christmases have come at onve.
The storyline is excellent, it was surprising in many ways and the actual crime Mason was investigating was as gory and complex as is the norm with this author as well as being satisfyingly taut and attention grabbing. Revisiting such popular characters whose story arcs had been believed to have finished is always a risky business but in this case it absolutely works right from the first word. I loved it.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review, I have also purchased a copy and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this author's work. Once again Ms Elliot has written an exciting, page turning crime novel of the highest quality.
Ambitious mustering of many characters making for moments of confusion, but Ms Elliot appears to have go old knowledge of the workings of US North Pacific law enforcement procedures. The story is wide-ranging and flies along at great pace. My opinion only, but following this Gore-splattered tale I found the final wedding chapter a tad mawkish.
