I must confess that I had not heard of Leonardo Boff or of Liberation Theology before. Yet, while reading the book so much of the history of the Catholic Church and Latin America was clarified for me. I also began to read with interest the current events of the Church with a much broader understanding. I was born into Catholicism and learned the rituals and beliefs of the Church early in life but I never truly understood my faith. I am Hispanic and I grew up in the two worlds; the first world of the United States and the third world of Latin America. In my youth I did notice a great difference between the Church in Mexico and the Church in the United States. This book helps identify and explain the different viewpoints in Latin America as well as in the United States and the teachings of the Vatican.
