Product description
The story follows Harry Mason, who wakes up after a car accident to find that his daughter Cheryl is missing. Harry will wander the snowy streets of Silent Hill searching for answers of her disappearance, but when the world freezes over, he will need to escape the lumbering demons that haunt his steps. Harry will need to navigate both worlds to discover the truth; not just about his missing daughter, but also the type of person he actually is. Silent Hill's debut on the Nintendo Wii makes the fear more real than ever before. Players will be drawn into the mysterious town using the Wii Remote as a flashlight and a cellphone as they search for clues. Choices they make will shape Harry Mason, as well as the people he meets and the places he visits. The enemies evolve as well, taking the form of the player's deepest fears. Silent Hill promises to be more terrifying than ever, bringing the fear to Wii, PS2, and PSP.

Like the original, this starts off with a man in a car crash, and follows him as he explores a creepy town (the eponymous Silent Hill), looking for his daughter.
This version intersperses scenes in Silent Hill with scenes in a psychologist's office...a narrative device I found interesting.
The game also "profiles" you in subtle ways-changes some things (including the ending) based on your actions in the game.
In terms of gameplay, I mostly love what they did with this. One of the points of the original Silent Hill was to make the lead more of an "everyman", someone NOT equipped to deal with the monsters that haunted that world. Shattered Memories in a sense takes that to a further extreme. Developer Climax has basically removed literal monsters from the game entirely, and there's no combat of any sort. There are a handful of sequences where the protagonist runs from monsters, but he has no real way of fighting them (just slowing them down at best)-you basically just need to get through the sequence. It's those sequences that I felt were the worst part of the game. The very first one in particular was too long, and too difficult-I ended up consulting a walkthrough to figure out which way to go.
Aside from some of those sequences though (a minority of the game) I loved nearly every moment I spent with Shattered Memories. In terms of gameplay, I'd liken it to something of a modern take on a PC-style adventure game. There are various types of exploration, and simple puzzles to solve-all of which I found compelling, and I felt the developer didn't repeat themselves either.
The locations are varied and interesting. The game is very linear, but that's just an observation, not a criticism.
The graphics and audio are superb. While developed in England, the composer is the same guy who did the earlier games in the series. The game knows how to use silence and environmental sounds, and the music is catchy but weird and unsettling in just the perfect way.
Visually it's one of those games that really shows off what the PSP can do, and how underutilized it was. Everything looks good, and the protagonist's ever-present flashlight casts weird shadows that distort as he moves through the environment.
And the storytelling-that's the biggest star here. I'm avoiding saying much of anything about it because it very much is the point of the experience. But if you liked the psychological aspects of the original Silent Hill, or like M. Night's twistier stuff, you'll probably like this too.
I'm super disappointed that Climax isn't making a literal or spiritual sequel to this, though it's so good, I've ordered their previous game in the series. I want more games like this!
When it comes to survival horror games on the PSP, you are severely limited. There are only a handful of top tier games of this genre, and this is one of, if not the best!
I will tell you now, that it doesn't play like any other Silent Hill game. To me, this is a bonus, since I am not overly fond of the series. There is no real combat in the game, in fact when "Monsters" do make their appearance it becomes a frantic run for your life. Because, in real life, if you are being confronted my hundreds of demonic entities, odds are that you are more apt to get out of town, and less likely to turn commando on them!
The game is supposedly a "Remake" of the original Silent hill, but it's more of a re-imagining. Aside from some of the characters, the game shares nothing with the original. In fact, if it wasn't for the title, and the character names, you wouldn't even guess that it was a "Silent Hill" title.
In terms of graphics, the game blew me away. I had no idea that a game could look that good on the PSP. Easily and hands down, one of the best looking games on the system.
Second, my thoughts on the game itself. This game was different, not in a bad way or in a good way, it was just different from the other series. You can't fight the monsters in "Shattered Memories", instead, you have to run away from them and find a way to get out of these "nightmares". To tell the truth, it was quite terrifying trying to find a way out and at the same time running away from the monsters. It would be less scarier if i could fight and kill them. But you know, after a while, you kinda get used to the vibe and you start to calm down when the nightmares come.
Like all the other Silent Hill games, you will have a different ending depends on how you play it. Over all, a great game, I played it twice to get the UFO ending, it was quite funny actually.
I don't remmeber the seller that i bought this from, but the game came in brand new condition. I will try to remember the seller in the future to give them the credit LOL. thank you all for reading my review and i hope it helps.
I personally love this game! I like it for several reasons. 1 it has some good jump scares, 2 I enjoy the puzzles, 3 I like the fact that it profiles you as you play. It’s definitely a different type of Silent Hill.

The downfall of Silent Hill Shattered Memories is it's lack of depth. The psychologist meeting that happen between parts of the main game are interesting at first but a few hours in you'll realise they aren't going anywhere, they are not heading toward a conclusion they are just pop psychology, as is the interactive elements whilst fun at first they don't really affect anything. Unzipping 3 women's tops instead on 1 to find a key doesn't somehow affect your characters complex sexuality it maybe unlocks a different line or two of dialogue.
The interactivity is great, interacting with a cupboard door to open it to pick up a key or sliding a window open is fun and fits the puzzle aspect of the series perfectly. The issue with the game is that it doesn't feel like Silent Hill. You spend an in-ordinate amount of time running through very samey looking snowy areas and very normal looking locations, ie cabins, schools etc. None of them have the degradation and twisted look that makes them seem truly ominous.
Until the combat that is. Oh god the combat it is awful. It consists of running around for 10-20 minutes running into blue doors, whilst trying to keep burnt children from jumping on you. The stealth mechanic that is the ability to hide a closet, or under a bed during a chase sequence doesn't work, the enemies will just stand there or continue walking in that same areas until you come out. So it's a matter of memorization and it is very tedius. After a few hours you will dread combat because it's so dull and the story holds so much promise. We want to learn about Harry Mason, is he a manipulative slightly older man with a guilty conscious or is it just the lens we are viewing the World in that makes it appear that way? What is his relationship with his daughters friend?
I don't know, the amount of patience required between the repeitive areas that lack any sense of either horror or history to them, combined with the tedious combat made this game so frustating I gave up before the end. If you're a Silent Hill fan you will probably want to seek this one out, and I don't blame you. Don't expect it to live up to the series name though.
