Community leaders tried to stop the release. The P.T.A. fought to ban it. Now one of the most controversial slasher films of all time is back in a new high-definition release! This new edition of the horror holiday favorite has been restored from the original vaulted film negative.
Silent Night, Deadly Night is the heartwarming story of little Billy Chapman who was traumatized by his parents Christmas Eve murder, then brutalized by sadistic orphanage nuns. But when grown-up Billy is to dress as jolly St. Nick, he goes on a yuletide rampage to "punish the naughty! ", Santa Claus is coming to town ... and this time hes got an axe! Robert Brian Wilson and Scream Queen Linnea Quigley star in this jaw-dropping horror classic that a nation of angry mothers still cannot stop!

My only complaint is this: His warehouse love interest should have been maimed, but spared. She already survived one gruesome attack only to be killed in a way more brutal fashion than her first attacker who got off so... light (pun intended). Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a victim landing in one trap only to escape into a scene of even greater peril, that's part of the fun, but the justice on this one was very off. I just found myself yelling at the screen on this one.

Though not on a par with Bob Clark's classic "Black Christmas" of 1974, "Silent Night, Deadly Night" is an enjoyable entry in the Christmas holiday slasher fare. Anchor Bay did an excellent job of presenting this movie in its original uncut version. The theatrical version nearly cut out ten minutes from the beginning, which was instrumental in explaining Billy's fear that Santa Claus would punish him. The additional footage showed the killer Santa Claus robbing a convenience store and shooting dead the attendant; it also shows Billy's visit with his grandfather in the insane asylum.
The movie has a high body count and the action is well paced. However, the acting could've been better. The actor chosen to play Billy was too "pretty." When he was wearing the Santa Claus suit, he looked very feminine - almost like a man in drag.
"Silent Night, Deadly Night" is highly recommended for those who enjoy holiday slasher fare. It is actually one of the better entries.
