Dr. Molly Fawn is an underappreciated sidekick to the local hero, Captain Colossal. When not fighting crime, they work together at the Opal City Research Laboratory. She is one of the few people to know Captain Colossal's secret identity as Kevin Platt. She may even harbor a secret crush on the arrogant and clueless hero. But Kevin doesn't pay any attention to her unless he needs paperwork completed, his secret serum upgraded, or any number of other things Molly does to assist him in both jobs. It's like he doesn't see her at all.
Molly lived like that until finding herself in the company of Opal City's most notorious and daring jewel thief, The Silhouette. Right off the bat, the Silhouette is so very different from Captain Colossal. For one, she SEE's Molly. And the more times they meet, the more Lana Blake likes what she sees.
I'm not going to lie, I thought Lana (Silhouette) was a bit too stereotyped as the sexy criminal villain. But I think that some of that may have been Silhouette's affected persona. However, Dr. Molly Fawn was a definite win. Smart, sexy, and just as wiling to put her life on the line to save the city as any hero out there.
I think the author's strength with this tale is when she answers the question is, how could a superhero sidekick and a criminal thief ever make a relationship work? If you like to read about intelligent women who have a knack for both finding trouble and saving the world from trouble, or if your kink is leather-wearing ladies with questionable law abiding skills, then you should definitely check out The Silhouette.
This ARC was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
I will mention that the main characters' best friends were strange to me. Both of these supporting characters seemed like the same person to me, at times. Different names and professions, but they both were so perfectly supportive of the MCs hooking up that I felt like I was seeing the same character. I kept expecting one of the best friends to get upset or into a major argument with their friend about the blooming romantic relationship.
Otherwise, nothing in the storyline is a shocker or any major twist and sometimes that's a nice thing in a book. I look forward to reading more from Robin Hale and will keep my eyes open for future books. Thank you for an excellent story!
