SP BLAZE B30 32GB USB 3.0 DRIVE BLACK
Top Customer Reviews
I can't explain it, but all of a sudden this drive started reading a lot faster, so I've changed my review from 1 star to 4 stars. I have reformatted the drive, including to linux/ext4 file format, then back to NTFS. I think out of the box it was formatted as FAT32. Anyway, now under NTFS, CrystalDiskMark is reporting sequential read speed of 221 MB/s which is indeed impressive. Write speed is still somewhat lacking at around 37 MB/s, but not terrible. If by some fluke it starts writing even faster tomorrow, I'll be sure to revise this review once again and I'll give it 5 stars. :)
I believe this makes the reviews unreliable now for 2 reasons.
Forcing reviews, and making you place the link to enter a contest, may push people to post artificially positive reviews,
and asking people to leave reviews immediately after registering is asking you to leave a review before item has been tested in many cases.
I have no opinion on the product yet, will leave update after some time of use. But the rating remains for unethical rating practice.
10/20/2015 update: Drive has been working perfectly fine. Transfer speeds in Windows 10 moving from solid state hybrid drive to this flash drive have been roughly 21.5MB/sec. Build is nice, no issues, seems consistent. My rating will have to stay for the reasons above.
At first it was formatted fat32 .. I did a few read and writes do make sure it was fine ... Was ok.
I needed to create an El Capitan Bootable image .. I used to make a Mac OS X boot in 16g, now requires about 22G . It formatted as Mac and while cloning from my other image , it warned me the partition was not going to allow me to boot Mac OS . Tried several times to create a partion with a child partition to no avail .
Decided to repurpose to a fat32 transport disk . It formatted fine , then the strange part ... Copying large files was sluggish ... Like super slow .
Decided instead to reformat to Mac OS X and use it as temporary storage , that's when it died ! Could not complete format and has an error ... Tried a few more times .. And gave up ! Piece of Junk .
I put a request thru Amazon and was offered an exchange or refund ! After reading some other negative reviews I opted for refund (thank you Amazon ) . I immediately ordered a Sandisk 32G cruiser ( I've had a few and they work well ) . No more off brands . I'll stick to Kingston and Sandisk !
PROS: 32GB flash drive for $15 (costs less than the average person spends on gas to drive to work each week!)
LED activity indicator
key chain hole
formats to NTFS without issues (unlike some reviews state)
it works (will update if it dies)
CONS: well...none really for the price! If you want the fastest beast out there, plan on paying a lot more! This thing is fast enough for me though.
I don't have USB 3.0 on my motherboard either (2.0), so I find there complaints about "only 41 MB/s under NTFS" a little funny. This is also why I'm not going to bother with speed tests. I mainly use this drive for backing up old drivers for multiple computers, personal settings (such as Firefox bookmarks), and programs I use on new installs. I transfer larger files (5GB+) when I'm going AFK a while.
So the bottom line if this is the drive for you or not depends on what you need/want. If you want something to quickly store large files (Blue-ray movies for example), why are you even looking at a flash drive vs external SSD hard drive anyway?!
