- You can have the silicone sleeve on the whole time when cooking on the stove so you don't grab the cast iron by mistake.

The major advantage with having a removable silicone hot handle holder opposed to having a permanent protective handle cover on the skillet is that it enables using a cast-iron skillet in hot oven without ruining the handle.

The silicone handle should be taken off cookware before put into hot oven.

This pot holder cannot be left on during cooking, as it gets about as hot as the pan. It is too large to fit any of my cast iron pans and and just rolls around when you need a grip. This doesn't replace a regular pot holder and will be useless to most cooks. Unlike nearly every other reviewer, I have not received a free or reduced price product for writing my review, it is my true experience with this product.

This thing is freaking awesome. I don't know why I didn't buy this about ten years ago. It solves my biggest problem with my cast iron cookware. Other reviewers are correct that it doesn't COMPLETELY shield from the heat, but I leave this on my pans while I'm cooking in them and it never gets too hot for me to pick up comfortably. Some people are more sensitive to heat than others, so if you're one of the more sensitive ones it's possible that you should not leave this on while cooking, but use it more like a traditional hot-pad.
I've been using this thing for several months now and have not found a single thing to actually complain about.

Color: Extra Large (Red)
The Crucible Hot Handle Holder XL is a slightly larger alternative to Lodge's Hot Handle Holder. It is about about 6.5 inches long, 2 inches wide at its widest and 1.5 inches wide at its narrowest. Like the Lodge version, it features internal ribs on both the top and bottom that runs the entire length of the handle and features a hole on one side to hang it up. And like the Lodge version, it shares very similar pros and cons.

Pros:
1. It works. I boiled water on my 12" Lodge cast iron pan until it was too hot handle. I then slipped on this hot handle holder and was able to pick up and hold the pan indefinitely.
2. You can leave it on cast iron pans when you cook over a stove top. If you're like me, you've forgotten that you're working on cast iron a few times and grabbed a hot handle without pot holders. Burning yourself just once may be enough reason to fork over a few bucks for one of these. But please understand that silicone insulates heat to a certain extent before it turns hot as well. That means you can't leave this (or any) silicone pot holder on when you put your pan in the oven.
3. The pot holder is one-size-fits-all and can fit all my cast iron pans, including my generic cast iron 6", 8" and 10" pans that have shorter handles, my 10" Lodge square grill pan and my 12" lightweight cast iron Tramontina plan with long steel handle.

Cons:
1. The inch closest to the flame can get REALLY hot. During my test, the heat that flows over the side of the pan made the handle holder hot enough to burn myself. This problem plagues the Lodge version as well, as you'll notice plenty of burned/melted Lodge hot handle holders on its product page.

Unfortunately, the heat from the cast iron handle came through the silicone and I had to use and oven mitt. I was hoping the handle would stay cool enough to touch it without a mitt. The cover doesn't get hot enough to burn your hand but it is too hot to hold comfortably.

This review is for the Silicone Hot Handle Holder for Crucible (Blue).

Fits my 10 Lodge griddle snug enough that I can drag the pan around by pinching the end (although I don't suggest lifting it this way). Comfortable too.

However, while it will prevent burns, it is no substitute for the classic cloth grip I've been using for years. While the pan was over 350deg, the handle holder itself exceeded 140deg. This is far too hot to use, and I don't know what good it is if I still need a glove to grab it with.

Lodge Striped Hot Handle Holders/Mitts, Set of 2 is what I've always used. They're super loose, and will fall off if given a chance. But they won't light even when you take a flame to em, and I can carry a 500deg skillit to the sink with just this.

Okay, I've wanted one of these for quite a while. I have a gas stove, and the handles of my pots get seriously hot. The Crucible Cookware Hot Handle is nice and thick material, and doesn't have major seams, which to me says it'll take some abuse.

Now, one thing...it doesn't work for all handles. I included a pic of the pan it worked on...for a perfect fit, the handle needs to be flat and rounded. It didn't fit on any of my pans with a more tubular handle. But when it does fit, it's secure and doesn't budge until you take it off, and it completely diffuses the heat and stays cool. A very nice product.

I received a discount for review purposes. My opinions and large assortment of pans are my own.

This handle is pretty cool. It's got little nubbies inside it that hold smaller pan handles, and the color is cheerful. I have lupus with inflammatory arthritis and nerve damage, and my hands are not so nimble. The handle holder is a lot easier than oven mitts, traditional pot holders, or silicone gloves for handling heavy cast iron pots and pans, because it protects my hands from the heat without adding too much bulk or further limiting the motion I have left.

One bit of warning - you can leave these on while you cook on low to medium heat, but if you go higher than that, they will get pretty warm themselves.
