Where the two collide is when he just happens to be assigned the rental property belonging to the Master he has never met, a man who watches every moment of Siken's performance on high-def security cameras, and decides it is time to finally meet.
There was so much to love about this, beginning with Matthew/Silken himself. Here we have a gay man with a lingerie fetish. He is not overly effeminate, and he has no desire to wear cosmetics or do his hair - for him, it is all about the look and feel of expensive lingerie, and Starling writes in such a way that we experience the thrill through him. He is an entirely likeable young man for whom we have both appreciation and sympathy, so that when the secret is revealed and his Master arrives, we so desperately want them to find their happily ever after.
As for the BDSM aspect, it was wonderfully done, intensely erotic, and yet sincere and tasteful at the same time. It is a relationship that works on both a physical and a psychological level, allowing a simple collar to be more exquisite than the finest piece of lingerie, and the passionate bite of a lip more pleasurable than consummating their passion with penetration. Even when Silken is dressed, with only the feel of silk and satin between them, we never forget that this is the story of one man surrendering to the blissful dominance of another.
Silken is that rare erotic romance that crosses boundaries of both gender and sexuality, appealing to fans of both CD and M/M fiction, without alienating either. I absolutely adored it, and look forward to reading more of Isobel's work.
A young man who loves sexy lingerie and is blogging about that, meeting an older man fascinated by the blog and the man behind it all who calls himself Silken – so much, that he contacts him and a relationship begins: Online, almost anonymous and of Dom/sub nature, with a huge age gap to boot. If that’s not promising enough, we also have a chance meeting that reveals their real identities and an erotic photo session in a vacant luxurious property… talk about multiple intriguing layers and facets! This short audio book really packs a punch.
I still wished it would have been a bit longer; I would have needed more time especially to really connect with Jack / Austin. Albeit sexy and gruff, he remained pretty much a stranger to me. We got a bit more info on Matthew / Silken, although not much. This story is all about setting the mood to enjoy their kinky fantasies.
The writing style is beautifully sensual and descriptive, yet it was not easy sometimes to recognize in whose head we were currently in, which confused me at times.
Gomez Pugh’s narration was great. Each character getting their distinctive voices, with Jack getting a voice that suited his age and Matthew with his lovely British accent.
A sexy and short M/M romance with light BDSM elements that focuses on the illicit and dirty fantasies of its characters.
Silken is the story of Matthew, a young dancer whose life had to make a huge paradigm shift after he sustained a career ending injury in his left knee. He became a real estate agent, inspecting high end vacant homes while their owners are away. To further fill his need for the thrill he enjoyed in dance, Matthew turns his fetish for lingerie and his dramatic talents into an erotic photo blog on Tumblr. The blog attracts an online Dom who attracts Matthew and the rest, as they say must be read.
Isobel Starling is becoming, in my eyes, the master of building big stories in compact books. This book is approx. 20,000 words and can be read in a day. You will, I promise you read it twice before you put it down. Matthews stunt for his Dom is amazingly entertaining. The stunt his Dom pulls blows Matthews mind. The whole story will blow yours! Can fantasy become reality? Read Silken and find out.
A copy of this book was provided to me by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.
