The creativity of this work is displayed in the unnatural environments the animals live in and in the actions the animals undertake. Animals driving cars, ironing, escaping the zoo...it is all way too much imaginative fun!

The quiz at the end could not only be used as a review of the alphabet, but a listening and comprehension exercise. I'm a fan of anything that makes learning fun, and DaCosta has definitely accomplished that.
Dark Sentinels Book Two: Torin
The creativity of this work is displayed in the unnatural environments the animals live in and in the actions the animals undertake. Animals driving cars, ironing, escaping the zoo...it is all way too much imaginative fun! Simone Da Costa did an amazing job balancing a children's educational book with one that would entertain and keep a child coming back to read it time and time again. I highly recommending getting this for anyone who enjoys reading and teaching their children in fun filled and creative waves. Check it out; I know you won't be disappointed.
*I was given a free ecopy in exchange for an honest review.
My children are big on pictures, colorful and bright. They were! They enjoyed some of the rhymes, but anywhere that the animal was making the wrong noise, they are always sure and boisterous with letting you know that it was improper and yelling out the correct sound!
Over all it was cute, quick and the quiz at the end is a fantastic idea. Personally I would have liked some of the rhymes to be a little different, but my kids... loved it.
Starting off with Dape the Ape...the children are introduced to a variety of birds and animals starting with each letter of the alphabet. The author's use of rhyme and silly events make this children's book a memorable experience. It fondly reminds me of several of the Dr. Seuss books I used to read to my children when they were young. It's wonderful to experience a childlike learning experience and the different methods that one can creatively use to teach children the ABC's.
The colorful characters such a Jerry the June Bug, Vole and his mother Sole, his father Tole, and his three brothers Joel, Coel and Dole add to this educational opportunity. The vibrant illustrations created by Anindita Modak are sure to enhance the reading pleasure and bring even more joy when reading this book to young children. I have several grandchildren and I definitely plan on sharing it with the younger ones. Also, as a former primary school teacher, I am always eager to read children's books. Learning is meant to be a positive experience and this delightful book certainly demonstrates this fact! The added bonus of the Quiz at the end of the book further enhances the opportunity for children to remember some of the information being provided. Good stuff!
