What a unique, valuable, and easy-to-use tool this short, powerful, and practical book is! After sharing it with friends who are caregivers, I am hoping health care providers will make this book available to their patients' caregivers. Sharon Martin shares her experiences of being a caregiver to her husband and father over a 12-year period. She reflects on what worked and on what she would do differently. Her form for brief, dated health documentation offers benefits to both the caregiver and the loved one. For the caregiver, a quotation at the top of the daily documentation sheet offers encouragement. The "Silver Lining Moments for Caregivers" is a place to jot down "'aha' moments that provide Sunshine on the cloudiest day." This journal is simple to use, time saving, and stress reducing. It is a support for all involved in the caregiving process. I highly recommend it and will buy more copies for friends who are caregivers.
This lovely, very user friendly journal is a valuable tool for care givers. How I wish it had been available when my own husband went into Hospice. How I wish I would have journaled his slow pathway to death in this lovely little book. As it is now, I have only wispy memories and find myself searching for what happened when. I think this journal should be made available to caregivers through Hospice or hospitals.
Recently, when Issie, my dog was sick and I had to go to the vet weekly for about 5 continuous weeks, I found a different application for the Silver Lining Journal for Caregivers. Being her significant caregiver, I needed to remember and recall specific information about her illness, and document the vet diagnoses, prescriptions and directions for her care. It was all so confusing, because they couldn't confirm a specific diagnosis, but I used my journal as a helpful guide. I am sure Sharon Martin did not have dog caregivers in mind when she wrote the book, but these days our pets are such important part of our families. Thank you, Sharon! Silver Lining Journal: For Caregivers
What I like best about Silver Lining Journal: For Caregivers is the voice of personal experience portrayed by a woman who has obviously LIVED this life. Written with full details that seem to leap right off the page, Ms. Martin has included all aspects of the caregiver's role and suggestions for how to deal with them. As a former caregiver for my father, I wish I had had this resource when dealing with the pain, frustration, and helplessness of a stroke victim.
