I’ve purchased 4 of these on separate occasions and each one seems to have wavy loose fitting mesh that interferes with the fan if it’s mounted too close. There’s two layers glued together to there’s no way of tightening the mesh or fixing it. Did my best to photograph this. Filters very well despite the poor quality and the magnet has good strength.

Follow up: I took a heat gun on the lowest setting and made quick passes over the mesh to fix the deformities and it worked like a charm. Think wrinkled clothes in the dryer. The heatgun took out the waves and tightened up the mesh!

I installed one of these filters on the third intake fan on my Antec 300 case. It's kind of a pain to get into and clean - I was hoping that I could mount it on the outside of my case, but the fan filter doesn't fit. This is the case's failing, not the filter's.

The filter itself is simple. It's a plastic rim with a hex-pattern plastic guard. The filter mesh itself is fairly effective at preventing dust from getting in, though I've found that it doesn't prevent tiny dust particles from getting in. It does stop visible dust, dust bunnies, hair, what have you, etc, so I'm not worried about my fans getting covered in grime.

Also, it came with some nice black screws to replace my stripped out silver ones.

In short, I still have to clean out my case, but much less frequently. I'm satisfied with this filter, and would buy it again, provided it remains cheap.

Edit:
I noticed that the amazon picture kind of makes it look like there's actually a white fabric filter in the grill. Not so, although that would be overkill.

Couldn't be happier. My case has a couple fan mounts on the side, and I wanted to deliver fresh air to my GPUs without clogging them with dust/hair. In comes Silverstone to the rescue with this magnificent piece of hardware.

It needed 3 things to make me happy:
1) Be easy to remove and clean.
It's MAGNETIC, so it just pulls off, a quick couple spurts with an airduster, or some time under the faucet if it's really dirty and you can toss this mother back on and it goes back to being awesome.

2) Needed to stop dust
This thing has a finer mesh than most pantyhose, let alone the stuff that comes with most computer cases. Every couple days I stop to marvel just how much dust this thing keeps my computer's guts safe from. If this thing was a bouncer at a classy club, that club would go out of business, because (you guessed it) nothing is getting in.

3) Be cheap.
Ok, so it could be cheaper, but honestly? $10 is not that bad, and it saves me from the struggle of tearing apart my computer once a month and going through seventeen million airdusters trying to clean it out. In fact, if you do the math, I'm saving myself nearly 10 cleanings a year, each one taking at least an hour, so that's ten hours saved. Let's use the valuation of my time that my crappy fast food job uses ($8.25 per hour) and what do you know, this thing will save me $82.50 a year in time, sounds like a steal at $10 now, doesn't it?

Unless your case is made entirely of plastic and you keep it in an airtight, heavily filtered environment, you NEED this filter, so stop reading, scroll back up, and click "Buy," you won't regret it.

Let me tell you, this product was IMPOSSIBLE to install. I had to laboriously use a box cutter to open the extremely secure Amazon packaging...Then wouldn't you know it...the Silverstone Fan Filter was ENCASED IN PLASTIC! After a grueling 3 seconds removing said plastic, I went about the excruciatingly lengthy install process. Of course Silverstone wasn't even kind enough to include installation instructions, so I winged it. I hovered the fan filter over the fan intake on my case...meticulously aligning it to make sure I got total coverage to keep those angry dust bunnies at bay. Finally!!! My fan filter was properly secured onto my case through the power of magnetism.

After a few weeks I noticed this strange coating of grayish white material over the mesh of the filter...my fiancee informed me that this was what dust looks like before it manifests in the form of the dreaded dust bunny!

IT WORKKKSS!!!!!

I installed this on my Rosewill Challenger case for the side vent. The magnetized points hold it well on the metal panel. Note for Challenger case owners, if you're particular with alignment and aesthetics, you may want a different solution than this; in order to cover all of the open vents, you're going to have to deal with this not being completely centered. The Challenger has the fans mount sort of offset to the left, while leaving about less than half an inch of open vent that the fans don't cover on the right. (I'm going to try to upload a photo of it on here).

The thing I like the best about this filter is it's very easy to remove due to the mounting option is magnets. And just lightly tap it against a table outside to remove the dust, or for harder stuck on dust take a vacuum to it or use an air compressor to blow the dust out from the intake side.

Overall it holds well, and filters great. Easy installation and easier dismantle for when I need to clean the dust off.
