Product Description

The SDP09 is an internal bay adapter designed to fit one 2.5"hard drive or SSD for use in 3.5"hot-swap SATA/SAS drive cages and cases. This is made possible unlike other types of SSD or 2.5"adapters in that the SDP09 replicates the exact location of SATA data and power connectors as on standard 3.5"SATA or SAS hard drives. The all metal construction also ensures that the SDP09 will be capable of being used repeatedly for hot-swapping without breaking or deformation.

This item was purchased to complement an Antec EasySATA Dock that has worked flawlessly in the three years that I have owned it. SilverStone's SDP09 would expected to bring 2.5" drives into the fold, but it is too poorly constructed to accomplish that goal.

The alignment of the SATA connector is off by nearly 2mm laterally, and a small amount vertically. There is no lateral adjustment built into the device, which would have been relatively simple to do. As it is, I would have to bend the unit, or fabricate new mounts to make it work as intended. The offset can plainly be seen in a photo I will also upload.

There is more than a millimeter of lateral play in the 2.5" drive mount. So, take the SATA connector off of it's mounts, plug it into the 2.5" drive, then mount that drive all the way to one side, it will almost line up. Cocking the connector at a slight angle off of the drive can make up the rest. Those gymnastics, though, are not really viable in pursuing time economy.

I ordered this product to install a 2.5" SSD into a 3.5" hot-swap bay in a Supermicro server. The connector was sufficiently poorly designed that it would not reliably make contact with the SATA connector on the server. It worked after bending the metal around the connector out of the way, but I wouldn't buy another one. 2.5" To 3.5" Ssd/sata Convert worked much better.

I bought these because they were a less expensive alternative, and they were available for 2 day shipping. They do not work at all. No mater what drive I put in these, nor server I put them in. will they work. If i plug the drive in directly everything is perfectly fine. This is my second SilverStone product to be returned in a week. I may have to just never buy SilverStone again.

DO NOT BUY!

This adapter is good in design but not execution. The SATA connector does not protrude out far enough from the enclosure for the SATA female connector to make a workable circuit. It would not even fit into my SATA docking station and hook up. There is no way to readjust the connector. But Amazon return process is great as usual so back it goes.

I purchased one of these a couple of years ago and it worked great in our Dell 1950's with hot swap. However the new one I just received has the misalignment issue. Apparently the quality control has slipped a little.

I used a dremal on the screw holes in the circuit board to be able to slide the circuit board over enough to make it work. Things you have to do in a pinch, when you shouldn't have to.

I bought this to use with a SandForce based SSD to be loaded in a Vantec EZ Swap 4 drive bay. The SSD was easy to put in the case and load in the bay but there is a problem with the Vantec bay not working with AHCI that prevented the motherboard from detecting the SSD. Taking the drive out and connecting it directly to the motherboard worked perfectly though. Nothing wrong with this adapter, in fact I am extremely impressed with the packaging and build quality of it, I just wish I had known it wouldn't work for what I wanted to do with it. Rather than return it I am replacing the Vantec bay with a different product that should work properly and allow me to use this at last!

Bought this to place my SSD in a hot-swappable 3.5" bay for a Grandia case. The adapter feels solid. No problems sliding the SSD on the adapter. You secure the SSD via two screws on each side of the adapter. It's difficult to screw in without a magnetic screwdriver as the screw holes are recessed and the provided screws are short.

Snug fit for the adapter in the bay compared to my regular 3.5" drive.

Feels pricey for what you get. For $10 I would give it 5 stars.

I bought this enclosure to fit my Intel 320 Series 120 GB SATA 2.5-Inch Solid-State Drive Brown Box in a 3.5" bay. There was no trouble placing the SSD inside the enclosure, it is barely wide enough to hold any 2.5" disk but not to tight as to scratch any surface. It's length is long enough to place two fingers at the back of the SSD and push it firmly in to the enclosure's receptacle. It is so rugged that it feels it can withstand a body lenght's free fall with no problem. It comes with its own 4 screws to hold the HDD or SSD in place as well as another 4 screws to hold the enclosure to the 3.5" bay.
